Yoga 900-13ISK2 wouldn't boot from the recovery media kit (usb pendrive)

Hi, fellow forum members-

The SSD on my Yoga 900-13ISK2 appears to be corrupted. It wouldn't boot (blank screen) and or even get to the bios via the novo button WHEN the SSD is plugged in. I can only get to the bios IF the SSD is unplugged. I already disabled the Fast Boot, enabled USB boot and saved the bios changes.

The USB recovery media is recognized (meaning, I can get to the recovery wizard) ONLY when the SSD is unplugged. Not much of a use when there is no hard drive (SSD). The Yogo wouldn't boot from the USB recovery media when the SSD is plugged in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do understand I may need to purchase a new SSD. I just don't want to run into the same issue with the new SSD.

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.


Unfortuantely haven`t actually encountered this before, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

I did make the attempt you suggested and it didnt address the issue. I tried to use the Lenovo recovery media kit over the weekend to conduct a full recovery, but I received a "It failed to read CD-ROM......" During the Reading Recovery Information state. Keep in mind the kit is in an USB form. I called Lenovo support and was informed that the recovery process was looking for a CD-ROM because it failed to detect a hard drive (SSD). At this point, I feel the issue has to be the SSD. I ordered a brand new SSD.

I will keep this post updated once I have the new SSD,
