Yoga 900 - REALLY Tiny Fonts and Input Boxes in some Applications

2015-11-15, 2:41 AM

I LOVE my new Yoga 900 except for one strange problem.  In  a few applications, such as Norton Security Suite when I went to install it and Yahoo Messenger, the font and especially the input boxes are so tiny as to be worthless.  Weirdly enough Messenger was fine until just now when it too shrunk.  I've tried increasing the display setting to something higher than the reccomended size of 250 per cent, this increases the desktop icon size as well as other applications but the affected ones are still tiny.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I am having similar problems, but I believe it's caused by such a high resolution display which can't be run at its native resolution because of the extremely small text and icons that this produces.   But, running it in the recommended 250% zoom apparently has its own troubles, causing weird reponse windows, etc.   The VLC player for instance, has buttons so small that you can't tap them. I hope that there will be a workaround for this. Frankly, I wish I had a 1080p display, since so far I can't see the advantage of a 4K display on such a small screen.

Thunderthud ---

I'm glad I'm not alone.  I swear I needed a magnifying glass to figure out what button I was hitting on the VLC player. I really want to keep the Yoga, I'm trying to decide if this is a deal breaker. Also that's exactly my thought, you DON'T need such a high res display on its small screen.

I like the Yoga 900 too much to switch also.   Just need a solution to these tiny items that keep occuring,  The 250 % zoom does not appear to be a universal fix to the problem.

thunderthud -

I've been poking around the forum and discovered that this topic has been going on for years!  Someone a couple of years ago came up with the following which worked for me.

Go into control panel, 'display',  then "adjust resolution' (on the left.)

Select 1600x900 then "apply"

Finally, right click on the desktop, choose 'display settings' and select 125%

It worked for me.  Give it a try.  Applications seem more normal and we both agreed we don't need all that resolution on such a small screen.

This helped me too

Thanks Alan!   That does seem to work in most instances.   There are still some quirks.  like having to zoom to 125% in Chrome, for instance.   VLC looks good, as do most of my apps now. This has been a great help!!!   Thanks Again!

Yes, this worked nicely.  Especialy since I need to use a remote connection for work from time to time.  Actually would not be an entirely bad idea for the 1600 x 900 res to marked as a good alt res for folks (like myself) who are using a high res screen for the 1st time.

I think I found another solution that let you keep the high resolution of 3200x1800 with 250% scaling. Try this and see if it helps:

- On the Start menu, locate the app that has the tiny resulution

- Right click, select More -> Open file location (you may also open the Windows Explorer and locate the exe file)

- Right click the shortcut or exe file, select Properties, then Compatibility

- Tick off Override high DPI scaling behaviour

- Select System or System (enhanced) in the drop down list below

- Select Save

- Start the application by selecting it on the Start menu

On my laptop the application now shows up with same font size as other applications.
