Yoga 900 - SSD not detected in windows 10 installation - nor anywhere

2016-05-23, 2:39 AM

Hi all,

I just got my new lenovo yoga 900 with 256 SSD.

I tried to reinstall my windows 10 - enterprise edition on it - But no windows installer I tried even sees the SSD.

I downloaded the F6 drivers from intel and while the installation confirms that they are compatible I still get the pathetic message about how no drives were found.

I am stuck now as I get "recovery a required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed 0xc000225" when trying to boot up normally and even reinstalling windows 7/8/10 doesn't work.

I am getting frustrated here, can anyone advise me?

Thanks

Some people already discussed this on the forum, and it seems like Lenovo did not add support for any other SSD but Samsung. Because some Lenovo Yoga models come with Samsungs SSD preinstalled, all models have the drivers for Samsung, but other vendors seem to be kind of blocked.

Or was your SSD included in the notebook? Did you change it?

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't change anything, the laptop has been with me less than 2 days now :)

Apparently partitioning doesn not play well with GPT/UEFI on this laptop as every time i partitioned the drive the partition in question would get corrupted. [Which started this mess I am in]

Anyway back to the topic, I fixed it finally.

Lenovo Yoga 900 can't see the SSD even in BIOS as long as the boot is set to anything but UEFI boot - Not even UEFI Main/legacy supported works.

Once I got it to see that I booted into windows 10 installation and once it didn't detect my drive I pointed it to drivers from lenovo for another laptop for the INTEL RST and voila it worked.

Be careful, Intel's own [F6] drivers do NOT work with this laptop - as least they will crash and won't detect any connected SSD.

This helped me too

Thanks AngelicCore, can you please tell me what exactly were those drivers ?

Also, I used windows disk management to shrink C: and make a new partition (D), so far this has been going with no problems (for only less than a week), should I expect anything? Would you mid sharing the problem that happened in your laptop when you made 2 partitions ?

Hi Kaboz,

No, you shouldn't have any problems..

I think my issue came from using commercial partition apps not windows - I used EASEUS partition and another one  and try to resize my partition. First time it finished successfully but the partition got corrupted. Second time it just hung and when it restarted it wouldn't boot at all.

As for the drivers I'll upload the ones that worked for me to cloud and share the link.

Note that ONCE I had to restart the device and try again, as it didn't detect the drive even using the correct drivers - in my opinion it might have been a fluke though...

Re: Yoga 900 - SSD not detected in windows 10 installation - nor anywhere

Hello. I just reinstalled win8.1 on my newly purchased yoga 900s. I updated BIOS to E1CN46WW, which unlocked the RAID/AHCI option. Other BIOS versions use RAID mode by default and is hidden. Seems that's the reason why my ssd is missing duing installation.

However, this BIOS seems to block the wireless adapter by default, as my system do not recognize any onboard wireless device, despite I have tried many drivers, and softwares.

If anyone comes with a solution please share with us. Thanks!
