Yoga 900 - unequal speaker volume

2015-11-14, 12:29 PM

Hi All,

I just bought my Yoga 900 two days ago, and couldn't love it more.  It has amazing battery life, an amazing display and it just looks amazing!

However, I have noticed that my left speaker is much louder than the right.  Even cranking the volume up to the maximum, the right speaker is barely a whisper whereas the left blasts out loud and clear.

Interestingly enough, this is also the case when i plug headphones into the jack, although the disparity between left and right is not that noticeable.

I have updated all the drivers, restarted my computer, rebooted to no avail.

1) Has anyone else had this problem before?

2) And if so, is this a software or hardware problem?  Or... have I been handed a lemon?

Thanks for your help

Hey guys, just to update you on the situation.

 - no matter what I tried, the speakers would still be uneven.

   - i deleted and reinstalled the drivers

   - i plugged into external speakers

   - i made the sure the volume balance was equal between left and right

in the end, I went back to the store i bought it in and got a new one.

Hi Dang90,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with speakers in your Lenovo yoga 900 notepad.

Try to balance the sound level in the equalizer, go to control panel select sound option, under the playback devices select speakers’ option. Double click on the speakers option and select levels and increase the lever and check for the issue.

Let us know the result.

Best regards,

Hello! I want to report the same problem. The left speaker works perfectly, while the right one is barely audible, even at the loudest setting. I tried equalizing it in the options menu, but even unbalanced towards the right, it's still whisper quiet.
I upgraded the drivers but it didn't fix the problem.
The strange thing is that this problem occurred after I ran some BIOS updates on the device (it was brand new out of the box). Before that, the speakers worked fine.
I hope you guys will have some idea of solving this problem, because it's really annoying for a brand new laptop =/

Hi AmDrag,

Welcome to the Forums

Did you try connecting an external speaker and check if the sound comes in both the speakers?

Also uninstall the audio driver and check.

Let us know the result.

Best regards,

Hi Ashwin
Thanks for the quick response.
I plugged in my headphones and by default the sound was still unballanced, though it was fixable through the speaker properties (the driver was loud enough to hear when properly ballanced). Though that isn't the case with the built-in speakers - the right one is still nearly very very quite, even when only it is playing, and it is simply not possible to ballance them and still be audable at more than a few centimenters.
I unistalled the audio driver, but it didn't do anything.
It might be useful to know that, even though the speaker is really REALLY quiet, the sound coming from it is not in any way distorted, so the speaker isn't simply blown out/defective, which leads me to belive that it is more of a software problem.
Hope that helps in someway.

Re: Yoga 900 - unequal speaker volume

2016-04-01, 23:01 PM

I am on my third Yoga 900. First one had the sleep issue where it wakes from sleep while the lid was closed, which was fixed with a bios update after I had already returned mine. My second Yoga 900 had the problem where the recovery partition was completely missing. Lenova has sent me a third Yoga 900, and it has the problem where the left speaker sounds normal, but the right speaker cannot be heard. I had a Lenovo tech log in and play around with different settings, but in the end, I now have to send back the third one and have a fourth one sent to me. I really wish I could get the sound issue fixed without having to replace the Yoga 900 again. What is up with this model?
