Re: Yoga 900 waking from sleep

2016-01-20, 14:20 PM

I think the point of this issue is that the Yoda 900 has a problem that needs to be fixed. A laptop should not wake up from sleep while the lid is closed. I prefer sleep mode because it is much faster to wake up as opposed to waking from hibernation. Setting the laptop to go into hibernation is not a solution, but a temporary work around until this issue gets fixed.

Re: Yoga 900 waking from sleep

Hello,

What I understand is that when you press against the lid, it can sometimes make the Yoga 900 power on when in sleep mode, because the keyboard is active ? I think it's a problem because it means the lid is not rigid enough...

But:

- that's a price to pay for a light and thin machine.

- when in sleep mode, there shouldn't normally be any pression on the lid. In my opinion, sleep mode should only be very temporary, when the PC is idle for 10 or 15 minutes, to save on the battery.

- in sleep mode, the PC is still powered on and the battery discharges. That's not what you want when your PC is in the backpack.

I just tested on my Yoga 2 11 (much less powerful than the Yoga 900 and with no SSD): it wakes up from hibernation in 15 seconds. How long does it take for the Yoga 900 and its SSD, 6 or 7 seconds maybe ? ... How precious is your time ?

When a computer is in sleep mode, it is not powered on. The data is held in memory and the components are powered down. A small amount of power is used to hold the data in the memory modules, but other than that, the computer is essentially off. And, time is precious.

@chadyarbrough

Did you put your ultrabook to sleep and then it woke up?

OR did you shut it down?

Essentially from my experience, it takes 7 seconds for Yoga 900 to boot and about 9 seconds to shutdown. If you can live with that time, I would recomment shutting it down every time (and wait for the white power on light to be OFF)

Now, to achieve those times, you will have to switch off FAST STARTUP (otherwise it takes longer to switch off)

About the sleep Issue,

I will test it out a bit and report back on why this could be happening, if its the keyboard or some other thing thats prompting it to wake up.

Re: Yoga 900 waking from sleep

@All...

There is a new BIOS available for the Yoga 900 - C6CN35WW:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/DS105231

From the driver page: "[Important updates] 1. Disable internal keyboard when lid is closed in sleep mode."

I installed it this afternoon and have experienced no ill effects, and have not had my laptop awake from sleep with the lid shut by trying to make it happen pressing down on the outer lid.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Have you guys noticed an improvement in battery life and a slightly crisper display as well? Or am I imagining things?

Interesting observation. Thanks for posting it. I'll keep an eye on mine to see if I see the same.
