Yoga 910-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - No audio output device is installed

2018-03-10, 13:49 PM

I got a red x next to my speaker with the error "no audio output device is installed".  I reviewed this solution (https://support.lenovo.com/it/en/solutions/ht501860) and uninstalled and re-installed the driver accordingly (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/it/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/DS119198).  I also checked for updates after the installation.

While the driver worked after the initial restart, I found that sometimes it would stop working.  A few times I was able to get it to work again by just re-starting the PC.  Then it stopped working again.  When I check device manager, the sound driver comes up under "other devices". And the red x next to the speaker is back, and re-booting the PC has not helped.

Please help.

It sounds like driver issue. Have you tried to re-install the drivers?

Windows updated last night and now I am getting No Audio Output Device Installed.  i have run windows troubleshooter, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and I a have done a system restore and nothing has helped.

I have also gone to your webpage and updated all the drivers.  The audio driver was in the recommended list, but the update didn't help https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/ds105076

In most cases, system restore should fix the problem. Is it possible to try to load-up your computer with any of Linux system to check if the issue persists on Linux as well? ( You don't need to install the system, you can use "live" feature of Linux )

If it persists, it's time to call Lenovo support for replacement

If you read my post, you would see that I've done this several times.

Using the Linux OS seems like a very annoying way to do a diagnostic...

The system received a Windows update and since then I haven't had further issues but then again the proplem has reocurred intermittently. If it happens again I'll re-open the thread.

If it happens again, please, post here instead of creating a new thread

Re: Yoga 910-13IKB Laptop (ideapad) - No audio output device is installed

I have the same problem.  Audio went out about a month after warranty expired.  No audio device installed.  I've tried downloading new drivers, all updates.  Even spent about 2 hours on chat with lenovo tech but no luck.  They mentioned might need to replace the sound card but when I called Best Buy to check on repairs, person there said no sound card that was internal to mother board.  Does anyone else have a soluiton to this issue?  Is this a systemic issue on these machines?

Old thread but I too have had the same issue, twice now on the same YOGA.  The first time this error occurred I contacted Lenovo and they had me send my computer in for repair. My understanding was it needed a BIOS update. That brought my sound back. Several months later, it happened again. By that time my computer was out of warranty and they wanted me to spend something outrageous just to speak with me on the phone. I tried updating the BIOS again to no avail. Went through the same steps as everyone else; uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, etc. Nothing seems to work. I believe a previous poster identified the issue and that it's with the motherboard. There is no sound card, it's integrated with the motherboard so for us to get sound back, we would need new motherboards and that's something Lenovo is not willing to do. It's a shame because it's such a nice computer and Lenovo won't stand by their product. Best to update to Mac.
