Yoga 910-13IKB + external 4K monitor with USB-C to USB-C connection

2016-11-30, 12:26 PM

I cannot get the information from Lenovo support, so I hope there is someone in this forum who can answer.

Does anybody have a precise spec of the 2 USB-C ports ?

Can I connect the Yoga 910 (with UHD 4K display) USB-C 'video out' port to an external 4K monitor with USB-C input like LG's 27UD88-W or Lenovo Thinkvision X1 wide and :

- work on both devices @60Hz 3840 x 2160 resolution ?

- have through the same cable the Yoga 910 charging to 60W (with LG 27UD88-W led monitor) ?

- use at the same time the other monitor's ports as a hub seen by the notebook ?

- transmit at the same time data on the second Yoga 910 USB-C port ?

Actually the question resumes to :

- Is one of both Yoga 910 USB-C port compatible with DisplayPort Alternate Mode through USB-C to extend the notebooks display and allow recharging at the same time ?

thanks for your time

Hi Neomark,

Thank you for the answer Neo-cortex

Lenovo staff, please consider this as a request for a next Yoga 910+ update. There are and will be 4K displays out there that are able to charge notebooks through USB-C 3.1 PD compatible connection (see below for examples) !

I would appreciate, and I'm not the only one for sure, Lenovo could propose the charging feature through the video out USB-C connector on the next Yoga generation.

regards

I have bought a Yoga 910 . . . as a brand new laptop sporting all the latest design, etc I am very dissapointed with the lack of thought that has gone into it, especially regarding the USB-C ports . . try getting an HDMI adapter to work with this computer !  I am sending back the 3rd one right now . . lenovo staff have absolutely no idea and are no help.  I really would have expected all this stuff to have been properly thought out and tested before releasing such an expensive product.  The whole point with these technologies is compatibility and this doesn't seem to be compatible with anything.

Might check this thread for the stuff that works and the stuff that doesn't. Timesaver.

I have just recieved the fourth adapter to try and get my Yoga-910 to project onto another screen via the USB-C port. No help from Lenovo on that one.

This one finally works for me:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01FIVSC6Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would say that these guys have been very good in emailing me a link to drivers etc (even though I didn't need any - just plugged it in) and they were more detailed with specs than the others I have purchased.  They specify 60Hz which someone was asking about somewhere on these forums . . none of the others I have seen state 60Hz and several are specified as only 30Hz.

I can confirm that the picture is very good on a 7 year old LG 47LE5900 TV (1920x1080) so I assume it is capable of a good quality display on higher definition screens.

I am using the lenovo travel hub with a Dell P2715Q monitor at 4K, 29Hz.

The travel hub works with both usb-c ports.

Re: Yoga 910-13IKB + external 4K monitor with USB-C to USB-C connection

I have a yoga 910 13IKB and I am using the Dell P2415Q 4k monitor.

It was quite the research, but I was able to use the max resolution (3840x2160) @ 60Hz using the second usb-c port with the CLUB 3D usb-c to displayport adapter (https://www.amazon.com/CAC-1507-DisplayPort-Adapter-Chromebook-Thunderbolt/dp/B018AX3HJO/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1508687480&sr=8-13&keywords=club3d+displayport) and then conecting to the monitor with just about any displayport you can find.

I researched a lot before I bought anything. To reach 60Hz you definitely have to find the right adapter.
