Yoga 910 4k battery life..

I've had my 910 4k for a couple of days now but I just don't seem to be able to get much over 4.5hrs battery life out of it. I've checked background processes and can't see anything eating the battery. I've not really installed anything on it yet and most of the time, I'm just browsing the net using Edge browser and brightness set to 50%.

Really love the laptop but this battery life is getting me down!

Will it improve after a few cycles?

Right now, it's at 21% and it's telling me that it's got 2hrs 47 mins to run. Thats a lie because a few minutes ago, it told me it was at 22% and had under 1 hr left!

Do I let it charge to zero and then charge it back to 100%?

I'd be grateful for any help or advice please!

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

Hello HomeyJay

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Check your power settings it may be that they get set differently when the unit is on battery charge.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

As Krakken said, check power settings.

There could be a number of factors to low battery life. Do you have the QHD model or the FHD model? Cranking up the brightness on a QHD display could shorten battery life. Also, check your background applications; one of them might be constantly running. To do this, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Under background processes, see if there is any that is using a lot of CPU or memory consumption.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

It's the 4k / QHD model and there's nothing weird in the power settings (default that Windows 10 uses) or anything running in the background that's soaking up the battery!

The brightness is max at 50%, often less & I've uninstalled MacAfee (or whatever it came with) so even that's not running.

Can anyone with this model give me an idea of what battery life I should be getting?

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

Sounds like your Yoga is recalculating the battery life expectancy based on incremental measurements. IOW, the status bar estimation is going to change depending on the website you're viewing. Stay right here with no other tabs open and I'll bet you get six hours, easy. There's really nothing happening on this page. But open a tab to, say, CNN and, even if you're not actively viewing it, all the junk that runs on their pages works your CPU more. Spend half an hour watching YouTube videos and your battery life will decrease, too. It's also helpful to turn off Bluetooth if you don't need it. Ditto microphone, camera, Cortana..

I get the most out of the battery using Microsoft Word with Airplane mode engaged, microphone and camera shut off and audio muted. With screen brightness as low as I can tolerate, the thing gets fantastic battery life. I can write all day without having to seek out an outlet.

When I'm streaming a movie via WiFi with the brightness turned up and the sound at an adequate level, 4 hours is about it. I also run Cortana on voice a lot, which eats battery in that "she" has to listen all the time.

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

*****UPDATE*****

I have no idea why but the laptop (after a couple of days) settled down and is now giving decent battery life on the standard Windows 10 Balanced more profile.

I'm now getting around 8hrs out of it, which Im pretty happy with! Not sure why this happened but maybe Win 10 takes a couple of days to finish it's indexing and tidy stuff up..

Anyway, thanks to all who helped!

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

8hrs on a QHD screen is pretty good.
Going from FHD to QHD screens usually nets a 10-15% faster battery drain.

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

I just bought my 910. I used it for a couple of days and was amazed at the battery life - 8-9 hours using browser and MS Office. Then I updated all the drivers that were recommended, still had great battery life.

Then I allowed  Windows 10 to update and restart - now I am lucky to get 4 hours and it takes forever to charge. It seems to be related to the Windows 10 updates. Any ideas?

Re: Yoga 910 4k battery life..

I've had the same problem since the Windows 10 creators update. When I first got my 910 I was getting 8 hrs plus with the 4k screen but now on a full charge and at 50% brightness it says I have 3.5 hours of battery life. I haven't tested how accurate the prediction is but after less than an hour on Word I'm down 25%. I would love a fix as well!

What's your BIOS level? Newest v36 or something else?

My Yoga 910 is at v36 and was updated to Win10Pro 1703 about 2 weeks ago.

Starting from a full charge, I've been active for ~3 hours, and right now the battery shows 68% remaining (and ~7hrs left)

Regards.
