Yoga 910 DPC Watchdog Violation, reboots and stutters

I have a two week old Yoga 910.  I am at the verge of returning the machine and going with another product because of this ongoing problem.

The system stutters often.  By that, I mean that about once per hour, even with just the browser open, the system will FREEZE in place for a period ranging from 5 to 30 seconds and then it will continue.  This can happen at any point and with any app open.

The system shuts down at least once a day to reboot.

The system occassionally displays the Blue Screen of Death with the message DPC_Watchdog_Violation.  (DPC Watchdog Violation)  Of course, a reboot is required.

I did Google the violation and received lots of discussion about IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller.  But, this system does not have this entry.

what do I do? Return the pc?

Re: Yoga 910 DPC Watchdog Violation, reboots and stutters

Hi there, Elleirdad      -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

A computer watchdog is a hardware timer used to trigger a system reset if software neglects to regularly service the watchdog. In a watchdog mode, the watchdog timer can be used to protect the system against software failure, such as when a program becomes trapped in an unintended, infinite loop.

I had the exact same freezing problem. It seems to be gone after installing all Windows updates. That required quite a few restarts

Also, click here for better understanding.

Update us how it goes.

I also had this problem, I think that installing windows updates probably fixed it since I haven't seen it in quite awhile. It is very annoying though

Thank you.  While there are no Windows Updates, I just found a BIOS update.  I will let you know if things stabilize.

Sadly, no.  I have not had another blue screen since the BIOS update.  But, the system still freezes for 20-30 seconds at a time before resuming.

Re: Yoga 910 DPC Watchdog Violation, reboots and stutters

Update the BIOS first.

1) Turned off DPTF in the BIOS settings.  BIOS settings are accessible by pushing in the small recessed round button next to the Power button while the unit is off.  Hold down the round button for 4 seconds and the screen will come up.  You can then disable DPTF.

2) Under the Power Options in the Control Panel Settings, it's now set to High Performance.
