Yoga 910 Freezes

2017-03-31, 9:47 AM

Hi, I have a yoga 910 i5, 8gb ram and 512 ssd, I love it but there is an annoynig problem regarding the laptop. It just sometimes freezes for 2-3s, sometimes all of it, sometimes just chrome. I also had some problems oppening a office document. I double click on the docx or xlxs then I am able to do things in the pc but it opens after several seconds...

Same with Chrome, sometimes freezes and I can use the rest of the pc, sometimes just hangs...

I took a look in task manager and there is nothing consumming many computing resources, I also performed all lenovo hardware scans but none of them found any errors, so the hard should be fine.

I really hope for a solution, changing the laptop will make me looose so much time with programms and data movement.

Can I do something or I should just return it?

Solved! See the solution

Hi ppstefan ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Before deciding on it , you may want to try updating the BIOS and chipset and disable hardware acceleration on chrome.

Check back on BIOS  If the problem usally happens on tablet mode then disabling DPTF in BIOS (FN +F2 or via Novo button).

Observe a step at a time and see what helps it best.

Regards

Bro, Make sure you don't update the latest bios: Software name      2JCN36WW

This update will remove DPTF enabled/disabled option, and will make DPTF always enabled.

Sometimes, enable DPTF will make your laptop freezes.

I have the same kind of problem - random freezes - and also use Chrome.  I've disabled hardware acceleration and hope it will fix these problems.  It's the only problem I've encountered in an otherwise flawless experience with the 910.

Will come back if the problem persists but will otherwise assume this fixes it.  Thanks.

I don't remember where, but I posted a similar complaint. And, after seeing THIS suggestion ..BINGO. At least in MY case (Lenovo YOGA 910-13IKB, Win 10 Prof Ed 64b), turning off the hardware acceleration in Chrome was the solution. After I did that, my laptop works like a charm.

Hi.  I changed the Chrome setting you referenced but am still having widespread freezing with Word, Outlook, Chrome, and normal functions like pulling up the settings tab.  If I try control+alt+delete, sometimes it will register and other times it doesn't even recognize the command.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?

That might depend on the location of your document and the software you're using. I have Office 2013 installed and documents that are stored ON the 910 open right up. Documents stored on my network (which is most of them) take much longer as the computer hosting them has to wake up and spin up the drives they're stored on. I'm debating moving those documents from my office computer to a solid-state drive attached to my router. Should speed things up a bit, I'd think.

If you're using Office 365, you might want to see THIS thread

I have the same i7 910 as you. Only difference is Office 2013. Never saw a reason to upgrade that. I might put 365 on my 920, though, as I'm out of licenses for Office 2013 :). Currently, I'm using OpenOffice and GoogleDocs on that machine.

Might also check any third-party security product you have. If it's insisting on scanning files before Office opens them, that could also explain the delay.

Hi- were you ever able to get a resolution on this?  I am experiencing similar issues and it is driving me insane.  My laptop is only about 4 months old and should not be struggling with system functions.

Are you experiencing something different than what's detailed upthread? Because those solutions seem to work for users. I'm typing this on a 910 that only hangs when Office has to access documents from another computer on my network. 4k videos stutter on Chrome, but work fine with Edge.

If you have McAfee installed and it's insisting on scanning files before you open them, that'll cause delays as well. I don't have McAfee at all.

Might also help to look in your Event Viewer > Microsoft > System for errors. I remember the WIndows Anniversary Update wrecked a lot of registry permissions which took me hours to fix. But my 910 runs perfectly well, otherwise.

So DPTF lets windows throttle the cpu.  You can change the setting in Win10 to how much you want to let it throttle.  Mine was set to 5% and I could definately feel it lock down.  Just upped it to 95%.

Open the start menu and type "edit power plan", click "change advanced power options" scroll to "processor power management", expand and then expand "minimum processor state".
