Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

For some odd reason the Qualcomm installer was re-installed. I thought I had uninstalled it right after I bought the system a month ago and last night I checked and it was still there. However, I also thought the fan issue was better after I uninstalled it a month ago and then it came back at some point. I wonder if it was somehow automatically re-installed? Otherwise I'm giving it a few more days to watch the fan behaviour before I do anything else. Today its on and off as usual with only Firefox and Task Manager running. Firefox is using over 1500mb of memory with just a single blank tab open. Something isn't quite right. Less than 2% of usage and the fan is off and on all the time.

I recognize this behaviour. Often the fan increases a couple of minutes after i STOP being active, which makes the think some background processes use this idle slot to do their sync/update/backup. I would expect these processes to be efficient enough to prevent the fan from ramping up.....

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

I changed the BIOS to 28ww and the fan is lower level but still eratic and irritating. I'll give it some time to see if its an improvement.  I also had to turn off Windows Defender as it was always updating and triggering the fan according to the processes showing a jump in usage all day long. It updates multiple times a day for some stupid reason. I also turned off the constant Windows Updates by setting the wifi network to metered. Both of those things shouldn't have to be done but I have no other choice.  And finally a process called Windows Modules Installer Worker is the most serious fan agitator. No idea what it is but it routinely jumps the CPU usage to over 70% sometimes for even a few seconds. No doubt all the "updates" these programs insist on are one factor. The other is its just a bad fan most likely. I'm about at the end of my rope and if this 28ww doesn't solved the issue I'm not sure if anything will. When you spend $2000 on a laptop you should be able to relax and surf the web in a quiet room without constant jarring fan sounds. Thanks for the help.

The bios alone did help me but still didnt solve the fan issue like you had stated. What did solve it was reinstalling a fresh copy of windows 10. I dont mean going to system recovery settings and reseting the windows, I mean going to the start bar and then going to settings and clicking on updates and recovery. Then you click on recovery and once you do that it will show you the options available. Then under more recovery options it will take you to the microsoft website where you are able to download a fresh new windows 10 OS and it will delete all the lenovo bloatware and drivers that came with the computer and install a fresh clean Operating system. The drivers will update themselves. After I did this, the fans no longer come on at all, and if they do , there barely audible to the ear just like how they are supposed to be. Also dont use bios 34ww or 35ww as they throttle the cpu performance and overall performance of the computer and slow it down making it lag. Just keep bios 28W. The original operating system seems to have been corrupted or had issues when lenovo shipped the computers out. But the only fix for the fan issue is a fresh new Win 10 OS. Thats the only thing that worked for me plus bios 28w.

Interesting. I'm not sure I can do that. I'm a novice. It'd mean removing everything from the hard drive right? I have a couple other issues with the system but I'm thinking they were related to the Intel HD driver not the OS. Maybe they are though.

Its very easy. You will download the windows 10 download manager and once its done downloading, it will say ready to install and then it will ask you keep files or remove everything. I clicked on remove everything and once it was done installing, the setup process went smooth and fast most importantly I was surprised to hear no fan noise at all because, in the past when reset the computer with original OS, the fan would be running full blast and the computer would be burning hot during the setup process but that wasnt the case anymore. I have been using google chrome since installing the Fresh OS and no problems are fan noise. The fan runs at times but you dont hear a thing and thats how it should be. The fan should run, but it should run really low and very quitely not superloud and fast like it had did before. Also it should turn off after a very quick minute which it does now where before it would run forever and very loud causing the computer to lag.

Okay, thanks. Any chance you can provide a link to that? I can't find it by googling. Maybe this weekend I'll give that a shot. Also, did you keep the same Qualcomm WIFI driver? I saw a different one on the Lenovo site. I uninstalled the Qualcomm installer but obviously not the driver.

Thanks for the help. So I assume its the "Download tool now" option? I'll attack it this weekend.
