https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10startfresh. Go to start and then click update and recovery, then click on recovery then find the option more recovery options. Here look at the picture and you will see a link under more recovey options. Only use that link because it will download the windows 10 for your laptop with the product key already intact for you lenovo laptop.

Just did the full Windows 10 re-install and its louder than ever. The BIOS might have been switched back so I'll try that next... and no. Even with the BIOS 28 its still the loudest its been. Maybe its doing initial installs but this is nuts.

Sorry that didn't help man. I guess you have to let Lenovo know of the situation at hand. They must give you a new laptop since it's not a software issue or at least repair it.

You're right. But I appreciate the effort. At this point anything is worth a shot. I'm hoping to hear from Amy and we'll see how that goes. Its a good laptop but I'm now at the point where this hissing is present in my ears even after the machine it off. Thanks again.

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

After experimenting a bit with BIOS versions, CPUID HWMonitor and task manager here's what I found:

Downgrading to BIOS 28W actually makes the fan much louder. It also makes a mess with Windows Hello and fingerprint sensor stops working. Windows actually updates BIOS to 34W, so that's what you get on the next reboot.

However, this is the bios with the better performance consistency, it hardly throttles the CPU, when encoding video on handbrake, just a bit, it stays at 96-97% CPU at 2.7/2.9 Ghz all the time, with loud fan noise, of course.

BIOS 35W balanced or silent mode are almost the same performance wise, maybe a bit louder on balanced with CPU temps some degrees lower. However, running handbrake, CPU throttles, I can only see 86% CPU usage @ lower Ghz than with BIOS 28W. So this BIOS does throttle hard the CPU in order to get sensible temps with low fan speeds.

High Performance mode is totally flawed. It should replicate BIOS 28W behavior, allowing high fan speeds and less throttling on the CPU, but when encoding Video, CPU is at 100% usage for some seconds at 3.5 Ghz, the fans spin much slower than with BIOS 28W, and CPU quickly gets to 100ºc and thermal protection enters and heavily throttles CPU to 400 Mhz until it cools down! System becomes highly unusable with pauses, and it just cicles like that, 100% usage for a few seconds, CPU gets to 100ºC, throttles to 400 Mhz, then again to 3.5 Ghz and thermal throttling a few seconds lates. This is dangerous!

Please fix it. In silent mode the Laptop is very quiet, but I know I'm not getting even close to full performance of intel i7-7500U. However, I would like that performance mode replicated BIOS 28W behaviour, but no, it's even slower than balanced and silent modes because of heavy thermal throttling.

But I did came to a conclusion - Lenovo 910 is a briliant piece of hardware, but a poorly designed thermal system breaks it down. How was possible to engineer something like that, it actually wasn't test, or testers didn't complain on the very loud noise it made when doing CPU intensive tasks?? I can't believe it.

When customer complains started, Lenovo did silent the system, but at a great performance cost.

Not really happy. Probably fist and last Lenovo. :(

So are you saying bios 34w is better than 28w.

With 28W fan gets much much louder, I really can't imagine why somebody would think otherwise. 34W and 35W came after people start complaining all around the internet that Yoga 910 fans are really loud.
