Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

2017-03-19, 11:31 AM

At this point there is no clear cut univesal "fix" and it seems almost everyone is getting different results from different fixes. The BIOS change in my case has been all over. First the 35 quiet mode was worse and the 28 better. Now after the Windows re-install the 28 is worse and the 35 quiet mode is better. Then again that might change at anytime as this machine has a mind of its own. I'm also discovering serious issues with the video driver as well. I had not intended to learn this much about the inner workings of a laptop when I bought it. However, I'm not ready to make a sweeping statement about the Lenovo brand as I have been getting great support behind the scenes. So far.

If it gets hot, BIOS 28W fan noise is much louder.

BIOS 35W just thottles the CPU to get away with fans working at half-speed or so.

It does work, and to be honest, I do prefer the quiet setting for everyday use.

But if you do something even remotely CPU intensive with more than one thread, you aren't getting full CPU usage, keep that in mind.

Once again, I cannot understand how this cooling system engeneering was approved. Certainly I could live with some air intakes on the laptop side (or even on the bottom!) more than with a relatively quiet laptop that doen't have the full performance it advertises. More, it doesn't even make sense to use this CPU with such a poor cooling solution.

I've discovered that the background "updating" of programs like Defender and Windows is taking place randomly and Defender even has updated a couple times a day which is stupid. During these updates the background processes come on and that kicks the CPU usage up alot and the fan then hits its peek for as long as that is happening. At least in my case. Of course you would never know that unless you look deep into the Task Manager and then into the processes. Nonetheless, its an issue that is more than just an irritant at this point. I'm all for taking time to fine tune a new computer and solve the bugs that are part of that but at some point if problems arent solved its time to move on.

Apparently I found another version of the bios which 2JCN27WW. I think this is the original bios for lenovo yoga 910. I have installed 27W and it seems really quite than 28W. When the computer wakes up from sleep or when I turn it on the fans dont turn and run fast. See if it helps you. Also the laptop doesnt get hot as much and stays running cooler and much quieter and the fans dont get loud at all vs 28W. Please test this bios version like you did the rest as it would be helpful to know. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/2jcn27ww.exe

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

Yesterday i bought e Yoga 910 (i7 16 GB 512 GB FullHD)...and i was wondering: Windows dont work right, recovery partition was damaged. I made a clean install from USB of Windows 10..but i think the Idle Power is to high for the Full HD Modell: between 9w to 12w...(i have installed the new Bios and also activated the silent mode in bios)

any ideas why it us so much power?

It seems they've released a bunch of new drivers. You might want to check them out if you're still having heat/fan issues. I'm seeing good results, and I suspect it might be the updated "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework" driver.

After downgrade of what? And what does 'broken' means? In what way?
