Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

So you did all of the updates and changed the BIOS, with no positive effect on the fan noise?

I updated all drivers (including BIOS, I have 36 now) and then set "Quiet mode" in the BIOS settings. This solved the noise issue (even if, when stressed, this computer remains louder than its competitors, as far as I could see), but I wonder if this "quiet mode" achieves the solution decreasing CPU's performance. That would be a shame, since I bought this Yoga also because of its perfomance.

Now, I'm not familiar with benchmarking tools... Can you advice a good one, which would allow to understand if/how much Quiet Mode affects performance?

Thanks a lot!

Well you are welcome to go download CPU-Z from CUID, Geekbench3, or 3DMark and run the benchmarks on your PC, but I'm not so sure it is necessary. I am running the exact same stup as you (same firmware, quiet mode, and updates) and I can tell you it does not decrease the performace, according to the results I am showing in my benchmarks. I ran the benchmarks and went online to compare to what others are getting with the 910 and same processor and we are right on par, if not a bit higher! Let me know of you have any more questions, I will be glad to help in any way possible. The 910 is a great machine and has far exceeded my expectations now that all of the kinks are worked out!

Great news! I'll try one of these tools anyway and will report any bad result. Hopefully none!

Thanks a lot

do you guy manege to resolve the fan issue? Or do you think it's unsolvable in some cases?

Thanks!

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

I am experiencing continuous fan operation again, specially when working with several programs at the same time (as usual), and especially when Google Chrome is opened, that eats a lot of memory (many many tabs as usual, of course).
It just has occured to me that it is also a memory usage issue, and not only CPU, based on what is shown in Task Manager (see picture below).
Any thoughts?
It seems Lenovo considers this issue to be solved, not posting anything else since long time ago... :(
The continuous fan is driving me crazy!

... I have the same problem with a Lenovo X1 Yoga (type 20JE S00L00) but there is no bios update available (yet). anyone else encountering cpu fan problems? Anything above 20% cpu brings fan to maximum -.-

I have installed TPFanControl to get some control over it, but I would be happy about an BIOS update as well...
