Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

2016-11-22, 21:33 PM

Is this occurring on a Yoga 910 with a FHD IPS display or UHD IPS (4K) display?

UHD for me.

In the Event Log -> Windows Logs -> System are there any events being reported?

I do see a lot of the same log:

"A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Bus:Device: Function: 0x0:0x1C:0x0
Vendor ID: Device ID: 0x8086:0x9D14
Class Code: 0x30400

The details view of this entry contains further information."

Does changing Power Settings -> Power & Sleep -> Advanced Power Settings -> from Balanced to High Performance resolve the issue? Does changing the settings one more time to Balanced resolve the fan issue for the rest of session? After resuming from sleep? After a reboot?

No it does not change anything. Tried all these before.

Yoga 910 with the UHD 4K Display

Power settings dont change anything

Event log as follows, alot of these:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x1C:0x0
Vendor ID:Device ID: 0x8086:0x9D14
Class Code: 0x30400

Just purchased from Best Buy, everything is great except the vacuum cleaner fans. Ramps up when I am doing nothing or just browsing websites.  I can understand if I was doing heavy computing.

Nope

In my case the laptops fans are spinning constantly with the CPU at 48 celsius, occasionally when a background process kicks in the fans sound like a vacuum. Its sporadic.

I have opened my laptop up and tested it with the back open. The fans themselves are very whiny and loud. Regardless of the RPM in which they are rotating

Hi, does the fan keeps a constant and noticable noise whatever the device is doing?

If yes, what is the noise like, just fan noise or is more likely caused by some material interference.

normall the fan noise is hard to be heard under a low RPM, it is designed to be under 25db

You said you opened the laptop up, are you sure you didn't jostle anything or possibly unseat the battery when you did this?

Pls shut down the device and plug out the adaptor, then check if the battery connector is assembled tightly. You can press the power button over 8s to have a EC reset.

Hi, we design the fan noise to be under 27db when cpu is under 60 celsius, it shoud not be noticable.
Do you think the fan noise is something like the fan blade is interfered?

Here is my prediction: Lenovo will spend countless hours / $$$ identifying root cause and at the end whey will determine that fans are of poor quality, very loud and must be replaced. Initial solution will be BIOS update that will only turn on fans when CPU gets hot, but the end solution will be a new model with different fans, something like 910-15.
