Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

But have you set it up correctly? Mine is 40 c at the moment and quiet. The fan is quite loud when it kicks in above 55 c but comes down quickly and then it is quiet.

I think so, i've tried having it in both Read-only mode, and Enabled. I would say Enabled works the best. I just switched to Read-only mode, as some other users mentioned that it should be in this mode.

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

Hi all, i too am experiencing insane fan behavior. Unfortunately I did not heed the warnings and went ahead and made the puchase 5 hours ago...over an XPS... and I will make a very reluctant return. I agree with others that the problem is the fan itself. Even at very low RPM's it is very noticible. vert frustrating as there is nothing closee to this powerful or elegant in its price range. I am very sad.

I am using "Enabled". Make sure you don´t have any override settings. I had that and it didn´t work. Take a screenshot over the settings if you want to.

In reddit, are a couple of guys that dont have any trouble with the fan.

Its possible that ,there a batch of bad fan?

And out there , plenty of people happy with its silent yogas? or its a common problem?

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

I ran an experiment, to compare the fan noise of my new Yoga 910 16G/512G/4K with my 3 1/2 year old 2013 Macbook Air 8G/256G/i7 (which will be for sale soon).

To get the CPUs to 100%, I opened four non-overlapping browser windows, each continually running the Mozilla Kraken benchmark.

AFTER TEST STARTED:

Yoga: first couple seconds were quiet, then fan volume increased quickly to moderate volume, then over the next 20 seconds to full volume.

MBAir: first 15 seconds were quiet, then fan volume increased slowly to full after approx. 60 seconds.

MBAir full volume was louder than Yoga.

AFTER TEST STOPPED:

Yoga: fan became quiet after approx. five seconds.

MBAir: fan became quiet after approx. 30 seconds.

Yoga's fan had higher frequency sounds, like a turbine engine.

MBAir's fan had lower frequency sound, like rushing air.

It appears Yoga tried to keep CPU temperature as low as possible and ramped up fans the moment CPU load increased.

It appears MBAir allowed CPU temperature to increase, to reduce the need to ramp up the fan, but after the CPU reached maximum temperature, fans had to stay on longer to bring CPU down to proper temperature.

I didn't monitor if CPU was being throttled on either computer. Perhaps that is how the MBAir was able to delay bringing fans to full volume.

Lenovo has made a mistake in how they manage their fan. The Yoga 910 is visually elegant, and shares nothing with an industrial machine  -- except its sound! If it was a "toughbook" and more rugged looking, I suspect people would be more forgiving about the fan noise.

Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

Lenovo can fix most issues people have been having by doing the following:

1. allow you to remap CursorRight & RightShift buttons (asking us to download a 3rd party app is unacceptable).

2. offer three fan profiles: quiet, normal, performance.
