Re: Yoga 910 crazy loud fan even when CPU at <35%

Is this occurring on a Yoga 910 with a FHD IPS display or UHD IPS (4K) display?

4K model

In the Event Log -> Windows Logs -> System are there any events being reported?

Does changing Power Settings -> Power & Sleep -> Advanced Power Settings -> from Balanced to High Performance resolve the issue?

No change

Does changing the settings one more time to Balanced resolve the fan issue for the rest of session? After resuming from sleep? After a reboot?

Nope

In my case the laptops fans are spinning constantly with the CPU at 48 celsius, occasionally when a background process kicks in the fans sound like a vacuum. Its sporadic.

I have opened my laptop up and tested it with the back open. The fans themselves are very whiny and loud. Regardless of the RPM in which they are rotating

You said you opened the laptop up, are you sure you didn't jostle anything or possibly unseat the battery when you did this?

Pls shut down the device and plug out the adaptor, then check if the battery connector is assembled tightly. You can press the power button over 8s to have a EC reset.

Hi, we design the fan noise to be under 27db when cpu is under 60 celsius, it shoud not be noticable.
Do you think the fan noise is something like the fan blade is interfered?

Here is my prediction: Lenovo will spend countless hours / $$$ identifying root cause and at the end whey will determine that fans are of poor quality, very loud and must be replaced. Initial solution will be BIOS update that will only turn on fans when CPU gets hot, but the end solution will be a new model with different fans, something like 910-15.

If you read reviews of the yoga 910, every one of them mentions the fan is loud, no matter  it is a tech site or just a youtube review. So I don't think the design is so successful. Plus is the "louder" fan above 60 degree by design? I mean it is not just loud, it is embarassingly loud in an office. I don't dare to use the 100% max CPU at all.

Hi tinza123,

Thx for the feedback, we are working to lower the fan noise through a bios update. It's a bit difficult for us to have great fan noise control and system performance with a barely-no-air-inlet ID design.

Hope to know that if you mind to have some air-inlet on the bottom cover? This will guide us for the design of next generation.

I would prefre side-way air in-let. HP spectre has that design, and it is much quiter (I used for a week).
