Yoga 910 died within 13 months of light use!!

2018-03-19, 23:45 PM

I have owned the lenovo yoga 910 for less than two years and it died after 13 months of very light use right after the 1 year warrenty ended! The laptop stopped accepting any charge and was useless because when the power ran out it would never turn on again because it would never charge again. Lenovo support refused to help solve any problems fixing the laptop and told me to go to geek squad at Best Buy to fix it. Geek Squad confirmed the charging problem was none other than the motherboard and USB Type C board being completely fried and needing a full replacement that was foing to run me a stiff $530!!! Thats an entire THIRD of the price of the ‘PREMIUM’ laptop i just purchased almost nearly ONE YEAR AGO! This is insanely ridiculous to sell a one year lifespan  laptop at $1500 and refuse to repair it when it was at absolutely no fault to the customer and entirely a product defect! Now I am stuck here without a computer that wont work, and I cannot afford another one because I used all my money to buy the first one! What do I do now?

That is precisely why I would never buy a laptop without the extended warranty (with accidental damage protection), regardless of manufaturer.

That said, how did the Geek Squad determine that it was the entire System Board that was fried, and not just the power board, which is about a $40.00 part and easy to replace by just removing the base cover and battery?

Provide the exact model (MTM) of your system, and the exact part can be sourced.

Best of luck?

I am the same with you,my yoga 910 doesn't recharge anymore, although I just used it in such a little time.  out of warranty time。  so the under list is my repair journey。

1   first,I send my battery to my friend, they checked it ,it's ok,just  30 circulation time

2  after Google,I buy another new power supplier with are the 65w, still never  recharge.

3 then I take it to my electrical engineer friend, he checked and told me the mainboard have the problem, the Ec module one of out voltage can't keep with 3Vdc, always change, so Ec can't give out the introduction to recharge, so this is the reason why it can't recharge. then he changed some electrical component, now it works in right condition

by the google search , I find some yoga 910 have the same fault with me. the same thing is all of this happened at out of warranty time. that's so bad,

I just want to say,  as a customer, this notebook is too expensive for me, I just want to used it works for a long time,

but!

Aren't you even angry?    L   !  You disappoint me.  SUCH AS A CHINESE CUSTOMER!

They never told me how exactly they determined it, but the claim is in the paperwork they gave me when I refused the repairs. Hoping they were only telling me that the entire system board was broken out of assumptions just for extra money, and maybe they were incorrect. Hopefully it would just be the powerboard. But how would I ever know?  The MTM is 80VF007TUS

Sounds like my problem also. Of course it begin after 13 months like clockwork. Can you find out which component your EE friend replaced? I would love to attempt this repair myself.

I am sorry to hear it died so soon. How disappointing and frustrating. Check to see how you paid for your laptop. Was it with an AMEX card, maybe a Chase (not all) and many others. If so, they all extend the warranty of a laptop from 1 year to 2 automatically. ***** NOT ALL CARDS DO THIS ***** I do not know if this applies outside the US.

There are rules you must follow to qualify, such as paying 100% with the card, showing ownership, but for the most part it is pretty painless. AMEX for example, you must have paid for the laptop 100% with the amex. You they pay out of pocket to fix the laptop, submit the reciept to AMEX and they reimburse you. But call them to verify their process, Chase is different.

In the past I had an iphone, the battery in it kept dying. Amex paid to have the battery replaced, at the apple store 2 times. Samsung TV with bad capaciters....Amex paid to fix. Of course, their free warranty is only for 1 year.

Fingers crossed you used a credit card that offers a free warranty and you didn't know it.

Hi Snazzy53

As far as I know, If the machine is out of warranty you can can also open a ticket to Lenovo and they will tell you the cost of reparing it.

Check out the contact options: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/contactus

Thanks for the Credit Card tip! I used a Barclay card and it says that warranties are extended one year after factory one expires. Never thought of looking. I hope it works!

My 910 Yoga has not lived up to the price and expectations of a premium computer. It died and will not charge. I have had other problems as well but those have been minor to this problem. The support group is worthless as well.
