Yoga 910 will not boot/ start on battery

2019-12-24, 10:35 AM

After changing SSD drive, it will not power up on battery.

Only with pwr cable connected its working normal.

Pwr button, only gives 3 flashes on the amber LED on the left side.

Tried uninnstall battery and pwr adapter in device manager.

same issue.

Disconnected battery for a minute ( should it be longer? )

same issue.

When up and running, I can disconnect pwr cable, all fine.

Can do restart on battery, and it behaves normally.

It detects battery, telling the status when draining and charging.

So, now i am out oiff ideas and options....

Cheers

Hi ,

Try doing a power drain. Remove all peripheral devices connected to the laptop, then press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.

Turn on the laptop using the NOVO button to check if it will respond on battery.

If yes, then boot into BIOS then load the BIOS to defaults by pressing FN+F9/F9 then save and exit.

Update us how it goes.

Did not working either.

I will try to disconnect the battery one more time, and then hold the pwr button for a minute or so, and then re connect battery.

If thats not doing it... well... then i dont know.

Think its weird that changing the SSD should give this kind of issue....

Happy new year !

Still no updates on this issue actually.

Have disconnected battery, held the pwr button for several minutes. No luck

I`ve just noticed that, it can start up from sleep on battery, if put in stand by.

Really no one from Lenovo, that can tell me what the 3 flashes from the amber LED means?

Seems that i have to send the machine to service again....  Have to say I`m not satisfied with this machine, had it for 2 years, and allready had to get it fixed 2 times, du to charging issues. ...

What a fantastic forum..

I really believed U could get some  help from Lenovo techs,  not!

Its a simple issue, and should be easy to resolve.

If this product are so sensitive to just open it up and change a SSD drive. Lenovo should do something about it,

Even my simple questuon what the 3 amber flashes means, cant be answered,

even sent PM without getting any replies.....

Its gonna be my 1st and  last Lenovo product ever,

Tnx

Still not any response on this matter. Today I was watching a movie on battery. When plugging in the charger it will not charge. Now its totally dead. Will not start or charge. Still 3 Amber flashes when push start button, or that small lenovo button. When lid is closed, there's no Amber flashing at all.... So can anyone advise. Tnx

@mrNorway

Since this started with the swap of the SSD, I have to wonder if some static electricity damaged some circuitry, somewhere. Even if you disconnect the AC adapter, remove the battery, perform a static discharge and ground yourself to the chassis, there's still the potential for the tiniest of sparks, especially in really dry environments.  Even a little too much pressure removing and replacing stuff could have caused a fracture. Not saying that's it, but the timing of the issue with the SSD swap means it can't be ruled out. If the NOVO button won't even try to start the computer, something's really amiss.

The amber flashes basically mean the charging circuitry is seeing power, but can't do anything with it. Means either the charger isn't supplying 20v or the battery/battery circuitry isn't functioning correctly. Since you COULD boot with the charger connected, something is limiting the battery current so there's enough to run the computer, but not boot it. Now that it's not charging at all, puts the battery and/or its circuitry in question, assuming you're using the OEM charger in the rear port.

I'd first go back and remove the battery, hold the power button for a minute to bleed off residual voltage, then reconnect it all and try charging, again. You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver... IF you can get it to boot.

Outside of that, you could try a new battery, but get one from someone with a liberal return policy so if it doesn't work, you'll get your money back.
