Yoga 910 with 21:9 External Monitor Issue

2019-12-20, 10:28 AM

Hi everyone,

I have an LG 29UM68 ultrawide monitor and I try to use it with Lenovo Yoga 910. In both windows settings and intel graphics settings, 2560x1080 resolution does not show up. I am using Type-C to HDMI cable(https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MK8BSH3/ref=dp_cerb_1).

Cable and monitor work with other laptops. I tried to add custom resolution from intel graphics settings but I got the error "custom resolution exceeds maximum bandwidth capacity". Is there anyone who faced the same problem?

I also tried to install the latest intel graphics driver from Lenovo. It was already in the latest version. Any help will be amazing.

Welcome to the Community!

Couple of questions:

Have you tried that cable with your 910 and a different monitor?

Does the LG work with any other resolution setting? From what I read, some HDMI adapters max out at 30Hz. The LG does  2560 x 1080 at 75 Hz. You might try whatever Windows "recommends" as a resolution setting and see if the monitor responds.

If nothing you try gets the LG to wor, my suggestion would be to try a different adapter. Since it was designed early in the USB-C timeline, the 910's iteration of USB-C is a bit different, I've found. Many of us had to go through multiple docks and adapters before finding one that would work with the 910. I landed on this Trendnet adapter

Here's another discussion on external monitors with the 910

Hope some of that helps.

Doc

Looks like your cable is sh...

It does not even states what revision of HDMI they are using.

On daily basis I use usb-c to DP because it can run 3440x1440 100hz.

I connected through my hub and HDMI

https://www.amazon.co.uk/uni-Adapter-MicroSD-Compatible-Chromebook/dp/B07ZK8V5J2/ref=sr_1_10?m=A3HSZYDQ78K984&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&qid=1576853616&s=merchant-items&sr=1-10

It works fine.

So buy some better quality cable :)

Ususally is you buy some named brands with detailed specs of HDMI revision you should get what you pay for.

I just noticed - you bought cable for USB-C 3.1, your yoga is using USB-C 3.0. this can also make a difference.

Thank you Doc,

- I know that same setup works because I was using it before already. I broke my monitor and bought the same monitor again. Same cable was working with the same monitor on my 910 laptop.

- Monitor works with in other resolutions(like 1960x1080 at 60Hz but it stretches in 21:9).

I am thinking that it can be driver related issue or it caused from windows update not sure, still trying to fix the problem.

Thank you for response,

I dont think that the cable is the problem. It works with my friends thinkpad x1. He gets the 2560x1080 resolution on same Monitor.

I haven't had time to look it up, but is there a configuration setting in the monitor's menus? I know some televisions have to be told what they're connecting to or the display from the computer won't render properly. Maybe something introduced in the firmware between your first and second purchases?  Just a quick thought. I'm in the middle of a plumbing project at the moment and I know next to nothing about plumbing. :smileylol:
