Yoga 920 Benchmark . . . CPU throttled at 90%

2018-03-14, 16:57 PM

Thought I'd share the UserBenchmark of my Yoga 920, which recently updated to Win10 Pro and Intel 8265 LAN card.

See picture in attached.

. PC Status + Processor + Boot Drive + Memory + OS version are all good. Graphics is not, as expected.

. CPU throttled at 90% by Windows. Ensure maximum processor state is set to 100% via Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings > Change advanced power settings > Processor power management > Maximum processor state.

Well, the setting is NOT available. Anybody ?

If you add this to the registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\bc5038f7-23e0-4960-96da-33abaf5935ec]
"Attributes"=dword:00000002

..you'll get the power management tab back.  Source. I tried it on my 920 and got the tab back. It was already set to 100% for both plugged in and battery. So, restoring the power plan to default values might bring that back without having to edit the registry. As always, back up the computer and export the existing registry before making any changes.

Hi,

Not sure that I understand your question. Sorry.

Anyway, I haven't used the laptop to its full capacity yet. Hence, CPU usage by Apps & Background processes shown in Task Manager stays low most of the times.

What I'm wondering about is the settings 'Processor power management > Maximum processor state", which is not available in Settings. I searched Google which returned a few tips as to how to get there. None worked on my Yoga 920.

On another hand, I'd think that CPU 'throttled at 90% by Windows' may be a good thing. Running something at 100% could result in some unknown risks. Better is to use a more powerful equipment.

So, it was a good knowledge that there is such thing as to limit CPU at 90%. And the knowledge about the said settings would be a beneficial knowledge as well.

Thanks

Perfect,

That was exactly what I'd hope to learn.

I'd probably never need to apply the fix on the Yoga 920. I'd never want to run the CPU up to 100% anyway. But knowledge is always a great thing.

Thanks again and I accepted your info as the solution.

Best,
