Yoga 920 Fingerprint Reader Not Detected

Just bought a 2018 Yoga 920 and the fingerprint scanner is not being detected in Windows Hello or the device manager. YES, I have it completely updated from both the Windows Update screen as well as the Lenovo Vantage App. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded/installed the proper driver and that did not help either. I have tried everything. I can't even find it or any "synaptics" related devices in my device manager. Somebody please help, it is so primal to have to type in a password; I'm in the stone age, neanderthalic, just discovered fire, have yet to invent the wheel - "ME NEED FINGERPRINT SCANNER".

Thanks for your time ladies and gentlemen!

Re: Yoga 920 Fingerprint Reader Not Detected

Hello Jboi88

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try to download the Chipset and Fingerprint scanner drivers for the unit from the support page:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-920-13ikb/download...

If I`ve got the wrong model of the unit, just find the correct one here:

http://support.lenovo.com/de/en

Make sure to reboot after and update.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Like I said at the beginning, I already tried that... a dozen times.

Re: Yoga 920 Fingerprint Reader Not Detected

I had the same problem, and removing the device from Device Manager and rebooting worked for me.

In Device Manager, it's "Synaptics WBDI - SGX" under Biometric Devices.

Re: Yoga 920 Fingerprint Reader Not Detected

Still haven’t found a solution. It’s not showing up on device manager, so I can’t even remove it. I already mentioned that, but other two the dummies responding apparently only read the title and chime in their easy/obvious fixes. I tried manually adding it and that did not work either. I think we’re screwed. Smiley Sad

I ran into the same thing with my 910 thanks to a Windows Update. I'd set up fingerprints in Windows Hello, but it would forget them by the next boot. I'm trying to remember how I fixed it. I either used a System Restore to go back before the update, or I deleted Hello and set it up again using tips from this page:

You can remove the fingerprint or scan then set up Windows Hello again by doing the following:

  • Click Start
  • Select Settings
  • Click Accounts
  • Go to Sign-In options
  • Under Windows Hello, select Remove
  • Set up Windows Hello again

I can't remember which way worked, but it worked.
