Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

2017-12-29, 14:22 PM

Hi

Just wanted to share some success on my side.

I bought :

Aukey USB C Hub 2-Port USB 3.0 Ports, Ethernet, HDMI Port, VGA Port, USB Charging Port

https://www.amazon.de/AUKEY-Kartenslots-Anschlüsse-Ladeanschluss-Multiport/dp/B06XGWD2VT

And tried first in Win 10 stock, which did not work - almost as expected.

Next I booted in my Fedora parallel OS where it worked flawless.

--> windows intel driver to blame.

Next I went back to Windows and downloaded directly from Intel the latest driver which did not want to install as reported earlier in this thread.

Then I extracted the zip file and forced the installation via device manager.

After a reboot my second screen now works in Windows, too!

Cheers

Note: did check only VGA so far, will try HDMI tomorrow

Force Installed:

Intel Driver Version: 15.60.01.4877 (News) Datum: 07.12.2017  (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/de/download/27355/Graphics-Intel-Grafiktreiber-f-r-Windows-15-60-?_ga=2.233751710.1004419866.1514553067-1179252435.1514553067)

Windows 10 home, 1709

Update: after 2 days of using it, Win10 is still very unpredictable and sometimes does not work - sometimes it does.

Linux is stable.

I am finding the Yoga 920 a bit too big for airline flights so I am picking up a Dell XPS 13 for that :-)

Dell just came out with an 8th generation quad-core i5-8250U model you can get for under a grand (they even added touch screen to their budget FHD offerings). It will be interesting to see how the 2-lane TB3 port on that one works with HDMI. I will post findings when it arrives next week.

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

Quick update over here - I finally got HDMI working via a LETSCOM 8-1 in adaptor - https://www.letscom.com/products/usb-c-hub-usbc002-grey/

Since I deleted the windows.old folder, I couldn't remove the 1709 Windows update.

So I'm running Windows 10 Pro for Workstations version 1709, with Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver version 23.20.16.4849. So far it's been solid for me.

Unless you know what you're doing, you might not want to go down this route since you're using a non-Lenovo provided driver.

What I did was uninstall the Intel display software that showed up under Add Remove programs - I didn't note the actual name, but if you search for "Intel" under Add/Remove Programs it should jump out at you as the one with "Graphics" in the title.

Then I went into Device Manager, right-clicked on Intel UHD Graphics 620, clicked Uninstall Device, checked the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device". Rebooted, then manually installed the very latest driver from Intel:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27355/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-60-?product=126789

You've got to use the .zip version, not the .exe.

WIth the old driver and supporting software completely ripped out, and the latest Intel driver installed, everything seems to be working perfectly.

Hope that helps someone out.

Go to www.bing.com, search:  turn off autoupdates in windows 10 and you'll get the answer you need.

Thanks for tip. This did not work for Trianium Type-C HUB with HDMI ... will try with Letscom and post back.

Kind of disappointed with this issue... for a primium laptop this is indeed a poor customer experiance. Hope someone wtches these posts and come up with an offcial fix soon.

It looks like with all of your help we have isolated the issue to a bad driver after the fall creators update. I have recently noticed other odd behavior with my laptop that may or may not be related-my laptop will no longer go to sleep without closing the lid. I have played with the settings and no matter what options I select whether plugged in or unplugged the PC stays on all the time with the lid open. I do remember at one point it would go to sleep if I just let it be. Is anyone else observing this behavior?

For the record I have installed Ubuntu alongside Windows and when in Linux, lo and behold not only does it go to sleep normally but I am able to connect external monitors without issue further pointing to a software issue.
