saymonxster :

I have two 910s and a 920.  I never had a problem with the 910.  In the 920 it was a driver that didn't cooperate with the Fall Windows update.

Based on my experience:  I suggest that you use the Lenovo Vantage utility included in your original factory load and update the drivers.  All the drivers that it catches.  You may have to reboot between different updates but it will guide you through it.  Once they are all updated the HDMI should be working.

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

2018-05-07, 23:36 PM

I have tried everything mentioned in the this thread.

Updated Windows

Installed Lenovo Vantage and Updated everything

Manually installed the Firmware drivers mention on the SOLVED page

This is the USB C dock I am using - ALOGIC USB-C Portable SUPER Dock

Everything was bought brand new yesterday - I did notice another AUS customer had there YOGA replaced by DOA and then all works fine.

Will take the YOGA back to the store and see if other USB-C docks have the same issue.

I do require/wish to use the 4K video output from the dock as it is connected to this monitor: ACER XR Ultrawide

cheers

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

I have tried using 2 brands of USB-C to HDMI adapter and with each i get intermttant dropout of the signal.

I have also tried everything suggested in this thread (USB driver update, Bios update, etc) and have even tried these solutions on a second Yoga 920.

This thread should not be maked as solved. There is a clear fault with the yoga920 and we deserve a solution.

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

2018-06-03, 8:53 AM

I gave up looking 2 months ago, but basically, there is no USB-C hub (8-in-1 or lesser) that maintains adequate power delivery to all the ports - except if you are actively charging the Yoga through it, since it scavenges power that way. USB-C ports aren't all they are made out to be. That is why for a day-in-day-out machine, I went with an HP Omen 17 inch gaming laptop. No, it doesn't have an UHD 4K touchscreen or 2-in-1 versatility, but it has an onboard HDMI port, a Minidisplay port, SD card reader, Ethernet port, 3 (three!!!) USB 3.0 ports, and at least it has one 4-lane TB3 port. Plus it has a decent video card (Geforce GTX 1060) and sweet 144 Hz, Nvidia G-Sync enabled HD screen. It's nice to have dual storage (500 GB SSD and 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA drive) and everything is upgradeable (up to 32 GB RAM). 6-Core i7-8750H CPU. Bang and Olufson speakers. Not portable though. Too big and heavy.

The Yoga 920 is still one tricked out machine, 6 months after I bought it. I still have it. But it's shortcomings are mentioned above.

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

This does not resolve the problem at all.

The problem is that the Lenovo 920 is a garbage laptop. There appears to be insufficient power to the USBC bus. My wired Razer Mamba mouse constantly drops out and reconnects, as does my DellU2713H monitor, which i have tried to connect via 3 different USBc-HDMI adapters.

Lenovo just ignores this problem and i am absolutely infuriated with the run around and lack of action around a function that should be standard with any laptop.

This is my first and LAST Lenovo, but I’m not giving up without a good fight. All the way to court. I have already lodged a claim with consumer affairs. Let see where this goes

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

The power dropouts with USB-C hubs is not solely a Lenovo issue. I have the same problem with my Dell XPS 13 with TB3 port. USB-C hubs simply suck big time. If you want to resolve the power issue, simply get one with a charging port and charge your laptop through it at the same time. Be aware that if you ever dare cut out power, everything connected to it will short circuit: any external USB HDDs, any downloading you might be doing thru the Ethernet port, any CD that is playing on a CD player connected to it.

Update: I no longer have the HP Omen laptop as my day-to-day machine. It had a WIFI issue so I had an excuse to return it. For this purpose I am using a desktop to get around depending on the sucky USB-C hubs: MSI Aegis 3 Plus. All the ports are wired into the motherboard: USB 3.0/2.0, Ethernet, headphone, audio (with 5.1), and it has a DVD burner (it actually comes with a USB-C GEN 2 port too, for what it's worth). For $800 less than a Yoga 920, I got it with an Intel i7-8700 CPU and Geforce GTX 1080 card, even though it's not my main gaming machine. CPU and GPU are upgradeable, as is RAM up to 32 GB (albeit laptop RAM). And oh, it comes with two M.2 PCIE SSD sockets - greating for formatting SSDs for my other machines. Also no more overheating problems, as MSI is the only company that has incorporated the GPU fan curves in their MSI Afterburner software app to CPUs! You can configure fan curves on the CPU fan just like on the GPU of Geforce cards. So for example, you can set it to run at 80-100% fan speed from 74 C and up. Thus my CPU temps never exceed 88 C when gaming or virus scanning (even though I have my fan set at 50% at 80 C :smileyvery-happy:). Of course the drawback of desktops is you have to come up with your own computer screen, but I use a Lenovo ThinkVision monitor with all my laptops at home anyway.

And finally, no more overheating problems while charging the battery :smileylol:.

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

This did not work for me. What DID work was running the update from the Lenovo Vantage App in the Windows Store.

Just Google:

"DOWNLOAD LENOVO VANTAGE from Windows store"

Then RUN THE UPDATE because there is an update that affects the USB-C Port

USE ANY USB-C to HDMI

I got all of the above from another answer in this thread from julian_srz

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/ll06_en/message-id/59910

Honestly, doing a happy dance that I got this solved. Thanks all!

Re: Yoga 920 USB C to HDMI not working

Too bad it still does not work for me.

All drivers, that there are, are updated, which took at least an hour and counting the few hours of research before that, it would have proven way more sensible to buy an apple device. Very frustrating for a device mainly used for work, which involves a lot of presentations, it is a 1500 EUR piece of useless junk.

I have no idea what to do with this thing. It make ding, when connected to the LENOVO USB-C to HDMI, then dings again and nothing happens. same experience on two other adapters. All work perfectly fine with apple devices. It used to work with some hassle (only with one specific monitor and only if connected while display settings in windows were opened), then it suddenly stopped.

Really LENOVO? You cant get USBC to work? And pretend to sell business machines?

Will file a - probably useless - support request and communicate with the retailer to unload this. Unfortunately everything else is really nice:: fast, smooth, great display, but it has the feel of a great car without a steering wheel - so yes: it is useless.

It works with my Plugable USB-C 4K hub docking station (the one with HDMI and 2 display ports). Thanks!
