Re: Yoga 920 and Thunderbolt Dock

2018-09-13, 18:25 PM

Hi,

I have bought ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock and connected to my Yoga 930. It worked fine for the first 7 days. After that, It got disconnected and it is not working anymore. I am returning the dock. There is no use of it.

Yes, it is 920, sorry for the mistake.

I have just bought Dell D6000 USB-C Triple Docking Station and it worked fine for the first few hours but now I am not able to connect the external display. I am tired of looking for the dock solution for this laptop!

Re: Yoga 920 and Thunderbolt Dock

Hi, the Yoga 920 and the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC0135US) work well together for us since Feb 2018. They've been ON 24/7 without a single interruption. The 920 connects to the dock with a single ACTIVE 1 meter TB cable which provides power and data. The dock handles 2 x 2K 32" monitors with DP cables, Ethernet, & several USB 3 devices. We dis-abled the laptop screen and use external keyboard and mouse. During travels, we just disconnected the cable between the dock and the 920 and off we go. Most convenient.
We do not know why some have problems. The things that may have helped us would be: (1) Win 10 Pro, (2) quality TB & DP cables, (3) replacing McAfee with Windows Defender + Malwarebytes Premium. Best wishes and hope all will be well for everyone.

Does your power on the TB3 dock turn on your 920? Mine doesn't and I have no idea how to fix it .

I'm not sure, but I think that you have to turn ON/OFF the 920 by its own power button. I do mine that way.

I have the travel dock working with my 2560x1440 60hz (HDMI), Ethernet, and Peripherals (Keyboard, Mouse) and the 3840x2160 Yoga 920 monitor working as I type.  The dock only works with the 13IKB version of the 920.  Also, the driver that the print on the dock leads you to download is rubbish.  I too had problems with it.  I deleted it and just plugged it in and like magic it all worked.  So, I would recommend not to use the driver.

Re: Yoga 920 and Thunderbolt Dock

Since this thread has been collecting semi-useful information and comes up commonly when google seaching, I figured I'd throw in my two cents from my expirience so far:

I have a 920 with the i7 and 16 GB, I purchased the lenovo TB3 Graphics Dock when it was on sale and I have not been able to get it to work despite hours of fiddling with things. It charges the laptop, and like someone else mentioned you can sometimes get it to show display on the dock HDMI port but only as microsoft basic display adapter, not running the nvidia driver (which I have installed, and reinstalled both lenovo and nvidia's verions about 100 times...)

So so far no luck with the graphics dock. Very early on it did work almost for a bit, device manager showed the dock running the nvidia driver but performance was choppy, so I tried updating to the latest driver from nvidia and it all went south. Now I can't even get it back to the point where it worked a little bit. I will keep trying and eventually see if support will help (bet you $5 they won't). If I have any success I will post back.
