Yoga 920 and virtual machines

2017-10-09, 14:45 PM

I’m in the market for a new laptop and came across the 920. It looks like I’ll pick one up when it’s released. Does anyone know if it’s capable of running virtual machines? This is my biggest requirement. I’m not really well versed on 2-in-1s. Are they running full versions of windows or some watered down nonsense?

Yes, you can install Hyper-V and run VMs successfully and well.

Great thanks! Now just to wait till this thing gets released. I can’t find a date anywhere though.

Make sure you turn on virtualization in the BIOS.

I'd expect the Yoga 920 to support virtualization - as the previous models did - but bear in mind that Hyper-V isn't available with Windows 10 Home.

From the current specs it looks like the 920 will ship with Home - so an upgraded OS would have to be installed to run Hyper-V.

There are other virtualization hosts that can be used with 'Home: (Free) VMWare Workstation Player for one.

Thanks. This is helpful. I’m not a fan of hyper v and have a subscription to VMware workstation so I’ll install that after upgrading Windows to the latest pro version.
