Yoga 920 camera sometimes not found

2019-05-17, 0:46 AM

Sometimes, my 920 acts as though there isn't an installed camera. If I go to device settings, Cameras is no longer on the list.

Rebooting doesn't necessarily help. I can reboot several times with no change.

Then, mysteriously, the camera can reappear without an obvious reason why.

I've wondered whether it could be a conflict with an external camera I use sometimes, but sometimes that isn't a problem (I can use the internal camera even if I had been using the external one previously) and sometimes the internal camera can't be found. So that might be irrelevant.

Is there a way to tell if it is a software or hardware issue? I still have a tech support contract, so what are the odds that a technician will be able to tell what the problem is?

Any thoughts? I'm quite sure that it isn't the function key issue. That doesn't help.

Thanks in advance.

I should probably add that a few times the camera has stopped working and disappeared in the middle of being used. Everything seems fine and then it won't work and is nowhere to be found in device manager.

Do you find the issue occurs after adjusting the lid/screen even by slightest amount? I have the same issue with my Yoga 710. I think someone mentioned it possibly being related to a loose connection somewhere.

Hi jsibley2,

Thanks for using the Lenovo Forums.

There could be various reasons why camera can be faulty.

The issue may be caused by:

-Driver is out of date or not installed correctly.
-Camera was disabled in Device Manager
-Camera was set off under Privacy or Lenovo Settings.
-Hardware issue.

If the laptop camera does not launch or work the way it is ordinarily expected to.

Here are solutions that might fix the the problem:

1: Run Hardware troubleshooter

Here’s how to go about it:

Right-click Start.
Select Control Panel
Go to the “View by” option in the top right corner.
Click the drop-down arrow and select Large icons.
Click Troubleshooting.
Click View all option on the left pane.
Click Hardware and Devices.
Click Next.

2. We found a similar discussion/thread that contains troubleshooting steps, refer to this link : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/SOLVED-Built-in-Camera-not-working/td-p/3353327

If issue persists:

3. Install driver manually.

Right-click Start.
Select Device Manager.
Go to Imaging devices and click the arrow to expand the list.
Right click on your laptop camera or integrated webcam.
Choose Uninstall and Restart the laptop.
Install the driver here.

Re:Yoga 920 camera sometimes not found-dies on Zoom call

2020-07-07, 19:31 PM

I am stumped as to why the camera decides to cease working during a Zoom call, cannot be located, is not in the device manager, driver cannot be loaded, and then sometimes it comes back and works for maybe an hour, maybe 4 hours without an issue. Frustrating to pay premium rates for the Yoga 920 and have a simple camera die in mid-streaming. How can this be Lenovo? What is the fix? Up to now, I have been very pleased with its performance, but this is a stupid issue to have.

Next times it remarkably shows up in device manager, update it to this driver. Mine has been working on and off for 3 years. 90% off. I installed this drive when it showed up again and it has never failed since... So far :)

My Laptop: Yoga 920 series

Hardware: EasyCamera

Manufacturer: Bison

Driver by: SunplusIT

Driver date: 2018-12-04

Driver version: 5.0.18.36

Hope it works out :)

I can confirm AVTME's advice to install the newest driver.  For some reason neither Windows Update, nor Lenovo's own "Automatic Driver Update" scanner will tell you that you need to install this update, but if you just go to the Yoga 920 driver page, it's right there under "Camera & Card Reader": https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-920-13ikb/downloads/driver-list

I can't yet confirm that it fixes the issue, since it's an intermittent issue, but the camera seems to work so far after installing this new driver.

Installation process:

  1. Download the file from the link above
  2. Run the exe - this just decompresses the file and saves it to D:\DRIVERS\Camera
  3. Open Device Manager (Type "Device Manager" into the Windows search box, next to the start menu at the bottom left, and hit enter)
  4. Select "Cameras" > "EasyCamera"
  5. Right click and select "Update Driver"
  6. Choose "Browse My Computer" to locate the new file manually
  7. Select the folder C:\DRIVERS\Camera then click Next
  8. It should find a new driver for the camera.  Click Install to install it

If it does not find a new driver for your camera, either you already have this driver installed, or perhaps you don't actually have a Yoga 920, or the Bison camera.

Lenovo should REALLY fix this issue by recommending/installing the new driver through the Automatic Driver Update tool!  I don't know why it doesn't already do this.  Who knows what other drivers are out of date that it's not updating automatically??

Update: Installing those latest drivers did not permanently fix the problem for me.  I still get intermittent blackouts of the camera for no apparent reason on a semi-daily basis.
