Yoga C740-14IML Sound not working after failled update.

2020-07-10, 2:36 AM

I have no more sound on my computer since Windows update tried to update this driver "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 6.0.8947.1". I tried everything, updated all drivers via Windows Update, Lenovo Vantage and Intel Driver and Support Assistant. install and uninstall the driver (Realtek audio), uncheck start it quickly, but no solution.

Please, does anyone have a solution for me?

I will not be able to sleep until the problem is resolved🤦‍♂️.

Try switching to Windows 10's default High Definition Audio Device driver

  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager
  • Left-click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers section
  • Right-click on your Realtek HD Audio device, select Properties, and then click on the Driver tab.   (note the driver version and date for future reference)
  • Next click on Update Driver, then select Next select  Browse my computer for driver software, and then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
  • Select High Definition Audio Device from the list of drivers, click Next, and then follow the prompts to install
  • Reboot if requested.

Note that when you selected Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer, you may have older Realtek drivers listed that you can try as well.

Hopefully that will get your sound back working again until Realtek releases an updated driver.

Cheers,

Regarding your Windows Update error

  • Right-click on Start and select Settings
  • Click on Update & Security to open
  • In the left pane, select Troubleshoot
  • In the Troubleshoot window, scroll down to the Get up and running section, select Windows Update, and then Run the Troubleshooter

Best of luck,

Thank you for your response! But I had already tried this trick, it does not work for me.

I have the same issue - started on the 10th July - not sure if it was due to an update. Neither speakers nor headphones produce any sound.

Is Lenovo aware of any issue, and did you get a resolution?

Same issue.  Occurred on July 10, but did not appear to be related to a failed update per OP.  It looks like Windows update may have installed a driver update for:

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 6.0.8947.1

at some point. However, a roll back from that driver did not help.

Have tried:

  • Realtek Driver roll back
  • Uninstall Realtek and Intel SST drivers
  • Reinstall Audio (Realtek & Intel SST) drivers from Lenovo
  • Installed Realtek OEM drivers
  • Switching to Generic HD Audio device
  • Restarting Audio services
  • Searching for updates to all Intel SST and Realtek devices in device manager (viewing by connection type) - there were some updates to Intel SST available, but no help.

Nothing works.  This is incredibly frustrating.

Attempting to test the speaker device results in the error:  Failed to play test tone

Running the Audio Troubleshooter results in the error: Audio services not responding - Not Fixed

Have submitted to Microsoft Feedback Hub, which is hilarious - you get an automated response that is 1 year old stating that dealing with audio problems in Windows 10 is their top priority and that the audio subsystem is very complex.  With no further updates and possible solutions that don't seem to work.

Help? :)

I am also having the same issue tonight with my Yoga C740-15IML after rebooting. No sound from speakers. Looking at Windows Update driver updates full history, I see a failed update today "Fortemedia - Extension - 9.21.3229.54" . I see another driver installed itself today (successfully) called "Intel(R) Corporation - MEDIA - 10.23.0.2903". I also installed the recommended BIOS update and it completed successfully as well. No additional changes to my hardware or Windows configuration occurred today. I'm an experienced computer builder (25 years) and have tried all remedies. Please help us with a fix Lenovo. Thank you.

No sound, was working Tuesday, July 7 and not on Thursday, July 9.  Tried all the usual. Diagnostics can't complete because they can't see or find the speakers.  Seems I recall an update via Microsoft from Realtek and another from Intel about that time.

In addition to experiencing exactly what others have described above, I decided to dig further...

I ran Lenovo Diagnostics for Windows, looked at Tools>System Information>Audio, and this is what it shows (obviously incorrect, should be at least 2 channels and 44100 sample rate minimum):

And in Windows Speakers Properties for the same device, it shows:

The long list of supported bit rates and sample rates that are normally present inside this drop down menu are all missing. All I have are 24 bit, 48kHz and 16 bit, 48kHz.

Dxdiag presents an error regarding audio upon execution:

My educated guess is that something (driver/windows update?) has wiped and/or otherwise corrupted our Realtek devices WASAPI sample rates and bit depths. Lenovo support, please let us know further steps to diagnose this problem.
