Re:Yoga C740-14IML Sound not working after failled update.

2020-10-06, 7:22 AM

I have had the same issue with multiple models: X1 Carbon 8th, P53 and also some Medion Laptops.

My solve was to replace driver of the "Intel Smart Sound Technology Audiocontroller" System device with "High Definition Audio Controller"

as soon as I did that, Mic and Audio output started working again with no further settings required.

Could someone from Lenovo comment on this issue - since it seems to affect a range of models on random occasions?

I'd stake a large bet that you will likely never get an official response from Lenovo on this.

Lenovo asked to format and install windows 10 again again.... nor they will visit to fix on-site option and paid extra for onsite while buying the laptop. .. they say software problem, which software they don't know.. they cannot come...

took new laptop before 12 days .. such a horrible experience with Lenovo.. made a big mistake spending 2200 pounds on Yogo X1 thinkpad...

:-( not happy with speakers issue.. making me nuts and having such a big problem working from home life.. :-(

There are multiple possible solutions in this thread - follow them and you should be able to fix yourself! Counting on Lenovo will get you nowhere.

I have tried all of the above fixes without success on our T490.

At first i did not have any sound driver at all, i had to switch the "Intel Smart Sound Controller" to the High Definition one.
After that i got my sound driver back and could adjust the volume ect, but still no sound.

It doesn't work. Your solution is not working.

Re:Yoga C740-14IML Sound not working after failled update.

I may be a year late, but I think I can give some insight into this issue with my own experiences.

Backstory:

In June 2021, my personal laptop had a driver update (specifically Realtek Conductor SemiCorp Update 6.0.9231.1) and it completely broke the sound system. My music wouldn't play, and Youtube videos wouldn't even play to begin with. I ended up having to roll back the driver, and since Windows is trying to reinstall it, I'm in the process of navigating and blacklisting said driver update.

Solution:

My best advice (if it hasn't been suggested already) is to completely roll back the driver update. You can do this by going to your Device Manager and going to the specific area giving you issues. There, you should go into Driver and there should be a button that says "Roll Back Driver." Click that, and follow the steps. If it prompts you to install a new driver, I suggest using the previous one you had prior to the driver update. If I'm correct, you may be able to find that on the Microsoft or Realtek website.

I sincerely hope this helps!
