Yoga C740 not able to boot from USB

2020-01-02, 12:11 PM

I just got a Yoga C740 and wanted to play around with Unraid OS. I have tried 3 different USB drives but none of them are recongized by the BIOS. I have verified that I have USB boot device enabled but still nothing. BIOS is up to date aswell.

Is there something I'm missing? Can I just revert back to the legacy BIOS?

Hi ,

Welcome to the Community.

Switch to legacy mode in BIOS and select Other OS to boot from USB. Follow the steps in this article.

Update us how it goes

Hey @

I actually found that article last night but those options don't exisit in the UEFI BIOS on the C740. Also, if it helps, the screenshots from the article look nothing like the BIOS on the c740.

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you try to disable secure boot under the Security tab in BIOS then save and exit. Plugged in the Bootable USB then check if the bootable USB is detected under boot manager in BIOS. Please send us a screenshot for reference.

In addition, do you have an EFI format bootable USB?

Regards!

I attached the BIOS that I have. As you can see there is no OS Optimized defaults option and this is a competely different GUI than the screenshots given in the article. Secured boot is disabled and the BIOS still doesn't recongize the USB.

The usb stick is not set to EFI boot as the OS does not support that. Is that required?

Thanks for getting back to us.

Turn off the laptop, then plug in your bootable USB. Simultaneously tap the F12 key after pressing the power button to access the Windows boot manager and boot from USB.

Hope this helps.
