Yoga C940 14 wifi keeps randomly dropping.

2019-12-01, 11:59 AM

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga C940 14". Since day one I have been having issues with the wifi connection randomly dropping. I have done some troubleshooting online, and came across a Lenovo solution page here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht502846 (Frequent drops or intermittent wireless connection - Windows 7, 8, & 10) with several options for fixes. Having tried all of these, I am still getting the same issue.

I have run Lenovos automatic driver update tool, and they are all up to date. There were also no issues detected with any hardware.

Has anyone had the same problem, or is there a known fix out there?

Many thanks.

Edit: It's worth noting that this occurs even when sitting around 10ft from the router. I do not have issues with any other devices losing a connection.

Hi Sanna,

What's the version of wifi, and if you machine if is yoga c940-14iil?

I found the latest version on Lenovo website is:

yoga c940-14iil: 21.30.1.1, download link is https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/zh/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-c940-14iil/downloads/driver-list/component?name=%E7%84%A1%E7%B7%9A%E7%B6%B2%E8%B7%AF%E5%8D%A1-WLAN

If your wifi driver version is not the latest, try to download the latest version, and then check the problem if fix.

Hi WinnieChen

I did already have the latest driver, but I installed the one you linked anyway. However, I am still getting the same problem.

How is the signal strength when you are connected?

I had a strange bluetooth issue where one day no bluetooth devices would connect anymore. Tried all sorts of driver installations, but finally I opened up the bottom and discovered the bluetooth antenna had come loose.

Would not recommend if you're uncomfortable with opening the laptop up. You'll need a star shaped screwdriver and also have to pull off the rear rubber foot, there's 3 screws under that too.

If signal strength is strong when you have connection, this is probably not relevant.

I had about one random drop-out per day, turning wifi off and back on "fixed" it immediately.

Yeah that will reconnect me, but it still shouldn't be happening at all! The laptop is still in warranty so I think I will just get it sent off for replaement.

I have the same issue. Wifi fails at start up and sometimes connects after 5 minutes or so of troubleshooting. I've updated drivers using the service bridge and through intel. I also disconnected the battery and that fixed the issue temporarily but now it's not working at all.

onrcpa, Lenovo support gave the following as part of their solution. It has sort of worked for me, I still get the drops but they seem less frequent and reconnect a lot faster.

"...

If this does not work, a static discharge can attempt to resolve this problem as sometimes excess static electricity can become trapped in the device.

1.      Turn the unit off

2.      Disconnect the mains adapter

3.      Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds

4.      Plug the mains adapter back in

5.      Turn the unit on as normal

..."

Checking to see if there's been a real fix identified?  I had random issues with my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro that took forever to figure out a work around.  Disappointing to see they are still having random issues.  Like the computer, but may have to change over to a Dell.
