Yoga C940-14IIL windows KB5000802 update 0x80073701 error

2021-03-20, 23:46 PM

The latest windows 10 update KB5000802 fails with the error code 0x80073701. I tried every garden variety solution I could find on google, except one: killing all the services at startup and try update again. Bringing windows back to normal from that state does not seem straight forward to me since I see some stopped services in that list (not sure if all of them should be up).

I am trying to see if someone with the same laptop had a problem, if it is system specific. I appreciate any help.

Hi Adriel,

I read the post you linked, but it looks like nothing they tried worked. We’re they able to install the update?

Thanks!

I am also not able to update, exact same, glad I am not alone!

This has been a nightmare for over a week.

I have updated Windows, seemed to cause BSOD (Constant reboot loop).

Freshly installed Windows from USB. This seemed to work fine, then updated with Windows Updates, and it happened again, must be the update.

I have ran RAM tests, all is fine. I have ran system scans/ diagnostics, no issues. Fresh install, so not a software/malware issue.

It must be the update, I don't know what to do? Just not install? Forever?

I am Also trying to download and run the Lenovo System Update software, as well as diagnostics, but when I run the .Exe files I am getting various errors from Floating point, to files are corrupt download a new file.

I am ok with this, but I was now also experiencing 'SYSTEM_ACCESS_VIOLATION' in browsers (Edge & Chrome) when trying to play video, they crash.

When I pause the Windows Updates, this doesn't seem to occur, but if I resume, videos are crashing.

I am at a loss, and don't know what to do...

Ya man, exactly the same problem with me. I got this new laptop a few days ago. I came home and did the update, and I've been stuck since that momnet. It just does not update for some reason. I tried all of the things said on all the different websites including installing a different update from the windows update catalog. That does not install and nothing works. I am still having the same error.

I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro then used Group Policy Editor to completely disable Windows updates forever.

It's been proven several times that Windows update and Lenovo's total lack of updated drivers is a recipe for disaster.

If your laptop works the way you want then do the above and save yourself a load of hassle.

SOLUTION FOUND EVERYONE

I was having the same problem for 6 months now. Just download the windows 10 update assistant from the official Microsoft website and run that. It took 3 tries for me to get it working but it worked finally. The first time it ran but after restarting it said, "undoing changes made to your computer" then it booted like normal, something similar happened the second time too but it finally updated the third time and now it does not have any problems with updating.
