@seeNineForty
My drive is - as far as I can tell - not an Intel Optane drive.

Please be aware that the FHD version has pretty much the same fan problems as the UHD. I've had both, and the difference was minimal.

I have the FHD version and my fans are also quite loud sometimes even when there isn't any load and the laptop is plugged in. I tried switching off the Intelligent cooling and choosing the cool and quiet mode which has helped a bit. How do I access the bios settings so I can check if there are any settings there?

To get into the bios settings, hold shift while selecting restart, then select Troubleshoot, Advanced options, and finally UEFI settings. Unfortunately you won't find anything relevant there other than the three cooling profiles you can choose in Vantage.

If you have the 14'' like I do the fan problem seems to be a combination of the cpu settings being too agressive for the hardware along with the fans kicking in at ~50C, neither of which can be changed without an update from Lenovo. I'm running a -0.080 undervolt with battery saving in vantage and better battery in windows and the fans can still start up just from streaming video.

Second that - I experience pretty much the same thing with the exact same undervolt.
An update from Lenovo could easily solve the problem, so I'm holding out for one.

Re: Yoga C940 4k - Fan runs constantly

I have the 15in i9 16GB with 2TB SSD, 4K screen and sitting here right now just surfing the internet no fans at all for a while now.  If I leave for 3-4 minutes it seems to know its not in use and when I come back fans running low. Sometimes when I use Adobe LR they come on a little louder but not annoying at all. I have felt the keyboard get a little warm a couple times but nothing that bothers me. I've had this one for a few weeks now and I really like it. My first one had a funky greyish screen so it got returned. I have Intelligent Cooling enabled in Lenovo Vantage. Still now fans as I write this post.

Have you tried to set a cap on maximum prosessor state? See attached image.

That sort of defeats the purpose of buying a premium ultrabook with decent specs.

I do not think it would solve the issue anyway, even when the CPU is clocked down to its minimum 1.X ghz, the CPU idles between 48-50°C, with the fans turning on and off every 10 seconds.

I gave up, I don't think this is going to be solved, to be honest. I returned mine and am looking for something else. My Surface Pro 5 also has an i7 and seems to have proper heat management, so maybe I'll give the new Surface Laptop 3 a try.

I didn't even have those settings in my control panel.

My Yoga has been "repaired" and it's on its way back to me. Tomorrow I will let you know if they actually managed to solve the problem.
