Yoga C940 Intermittent Screen Blurring

2020-09-21, 17:13 PM

Just received a brand new Yoga C940, but I'm regularly encountering an issue with the display. After about an hour of use, the display will intermittently turn blurry.

Sometimes it's infrequent, other times it makes use nearly impossible.

The issue is resolved temporarily by restarting.

I already updated all my drivers through Vantage - here's the specs (14 inch, 1080):

 System Manufacturer: LENOVO

 System Model: 81Q9

 BIOS: AUCN54WW (type: UEFI)

 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.5GHz

 Memory: 16384MB RAM

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Community

Hmmm.  Restarting doesn't rule out a hardware issue, but I'd think it makes it less likely.  Have you tried booting into Safe Mode, then just letting it sit without launching anything? Maybe boot into the bios screens and see if it happens there.

Doc.

I let it sit for a couple hours on the bios screen, but couldn't replicate the issue.

It popped up again during a zoom meeting, so I took a screenshot of the blurry mess with the snipping tool.

After restarting, the saved image had no distortion - I think I'm leaning toward this being a hardware issue.

Still possibly software as screen capture grabs data before display drivers AIUI. Boot into Safe Mode, launch nothing and see what happens.

I tried safe mode this afternoon. After an hour everything was fine - so I decided to start opening applications to increase CPU utilization.

When the fans come on, the issue returned - and continued until I restarted the PC.

I have no idea why that would happen - maybe a grounding issue?

Either way, I'll be returning this unit.
