Yoga C940 Stuck in Sleep Mode

2020-05-27, 3:48 AM

Hello,

Anywhere from 1 out of 3 to 1 out of 6 times, my C940 gets stuck in sleep mode. The power button will pulse (indicating that it is in sleep mode) but pressing the power button, keyboard, or fingerprint sensor does nothing. I have also tried plugging in and unplugging peripherals and the power adapter which is of no help.

The only way I am able to solve it is if I hold the power button for 10 seconds, force shutting down the PC, and turning it on again.

I hope someone knows the solution. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the Lenovo community!

This might be an issue with Windows fast startup.

Please try the following:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, type in Power Options, and then press Enter.
  2. From the left menu, select Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Under the Shutdown settings section, uncheck the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  4. Click the Save changes button.

I just realized that there was a potential memory leak in a program and my RAM at nearly 100% usage. I think that this may have been the cause of the problem. I have uninstalled that program. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

On another note, another symptom has occurred when it did get stuck in sleep mode. The laptop would become hot to the touch where I was unable to leave my hand on any spot of the laptop. That was very alarming to me. For each of the two times that this has occurred so far, I have left the laptop off for a while to cool before powering it back on.

If uninstalling the potential memory leak does not solve the issue, I will follow your suggestion to disable fast startup.

(Sorry for the delayed reply)

For temps, follow my guide and let me know if it helps (mostly a battery guide but it has some temp tips too) https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/gao5ir/c940_the_ultimate_guide_to_a_better_battery/ And for the sleep issue, have you disabled CsEnabled in registry or something of the sort to enable advanced power options? That always messes up with sleep, so make sure to undo that if you had done it before (set the value to 1 to renable it).

Wow! That guide is amazing. I will definitely go through it, not only for temps but also for battery life. Thank you very much!

As for the sleep issue, since uninstalling the memory leak the other day, I just had the sleep issue for the first-time moments ago. I haven't disabled CsEnabled in registry at any point. I'm going to give disabling fast startup a try and see if it solves the problem.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

So as it turns out, disabling fast startup did not solve the problem.

It actually got stuck in sleep mode (with the overheating symptoms) three times in a row yesterday after disabling fast startup. I'm assuming this was a coincidence and wasn't actually related to the setting but it did not solve the problem either.

Any other suggestions from anyone? Otherwise I'm going to have to contact Lenovo support in the next few days.

hi,

Could you make a backup of your files, and reset your device to defaults (See usage of Novo button for your laptop)

And then follow my guide on disabling windows fast startup, disable windows Driver updates:

  1. Right click the Start button and select Control Panel.
  2. Make your way to System and Security.
  3. Click System.
  4. Click Advanced system settings from the left sidebar.
  5. Select the Hardware tab.
  6. Press the Device Installation Settings button.
  7. Choose No, and then press the Save Changes button.

update the drivers from Lenovo, and update Windows

See if this solved the issue.

By reset my device do you mean to reinstall windows and factory reset my laptop?
