Yoga C940 keep freezing

2020-06-16, 19:59 PM

Hello,

I have bought a new Lenovo laptop 2 weeks ago and I am pretty upset with the situation I am experiencing.

The laptop keep freezing, 1 or 2 times per day without any warning or apparent reason. I have contacted the support which said to update the drivers and then without asking anything else logged off.

Now, the laptop is in not heavily used, I use it only for e-mail and some browsing but it keep freezing. The mouse, touchpad and keyboard are not working and the screen is unresponsive. I cannot do anything except hard reboot it. Once I reboot it, the machine works again perfectly until the next time it decide to freeze.

Furthermore, I am trying to contact the support center since 1 hour without any luck, no answer to call, impossible to send e-mail to support, request a call back, nothing is workin. The ridiculous bit is that when I ask to have a callback, it says my laptop is not supported and when i ask to send an e-mail, it says service not available in your country. I live in UK so it seems ridiculous to me that this is happening and then, what a customer has to do to have a bit of support? I am having this notebook since 2 weeks and this is definitely not the best start...

Hope to have support here at least...

EDIT:

of course I have updated all the drivers and software available on your software centre.

At this point I am thinking to give back the machine...

Welcome to the Community

Have you tried booting into Windows' Safe Mode? See if it freezes, there.

Might also have a look at the System log in Event Viewer and see if there's any indication of what might have gone wrong.

Thank you for your reply.

This is what is reported in the viewer:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Alongside with this issue that happens twice, there are more than 800 between errors, criticals and warnings

I don't know if this is ok but I think I will give back the notebook.

My C740 is doing the same thing! Its so frustrating, I've owned it for close to 2 months and suddenly it just freezes.  Now its sitting on my night table collecting dust because i cant reach customer service. I should have gone with my gut and purchase a different brand :/

Welcome to the Community

All I can do is repeat the advice I gave to Alberto. Try booting into Windows' Safe Mode to see if it happens there.

I am having the same issues as described in this post and others.

I can leave the computer on the BIOS menu or in Safe Mode indefinitely without the screen flickering and freezing the laptop. To me this would indicate some sort of driver or software incompatibly on Lenovo's part. As a test I also performed a clean install of Windows, but as soon as soon as all of the drivers reloaded this issue returned. No programs were installed.

Driver issues are tough to chase down.

Start by making sure you're on the latest BIOS. Might even run Vantage to see if it spots different drivers or compare suspect drivers against the download list for your device.

Which Windows version do you have?

Vantage says everything is up to date and I have the latest drivers from pcsupport.lenovo.com's automatic driver update.

Currently on Windows 10 Home as it was pre-installed. I need to join the laptop to my home domain so I will be updating to Windows 10 Pro later today. We will see if the problem persists.

Sorry, by "version," I meant 1809, 1903, 1909, etc.

If it's 2004, the freezing could be a known issue.

If you're going to go ahead with Pro, that might fix things. If not, we'll have to figure out which driver needs to be rolled back.

Version 1809. Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and completely reset the computer. Issue persists.

Issue does not occur in safe mode.
