Yoga C940 no charge w/ Thunderbolt3 Gen2

I bought  a new "Lenovo" Yoga Ideapad C940 and the "Lenovo" Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Gen 2 135w docking station. This dock was the only one Lenovo said would work with my C940. 

 

When plugged into the Type C thunderbolt connection on the computer it does not charge. Everything else works, monitors, mouse, keyboard, and flashdrives. I am sure it is a very simple solution but the support from "Lenovo" and Thinkpad is a joke. They both want to blame each other and not help with the issue. 

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try updating the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 driver: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS505148 

 

Download the Intel Thunderbolt Driver for Windows, BIOS and chipset here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/

 

Update us how it goes.

I have the exact same issue, and same laptop / peripheral. 

 

This was the dock recommended for this laptop from the Lenovo "dock selector" tool on the website.

 

Additional info : if I plug my laptop into the USB C port on the other side of the dock, it will register and charge EVERY time, but I get a notification in Windows saying "Slow charger is connected".

 

If I plug into the USB C on the correct side of the Thunderbolt charger, I will only sometimes (< 25% of the time) get a charging icon in the system tray. I've tried to narrow it down to a potential cause, like having the laptop in sleep mode vs fully awake and there doesn't seem to be a coorelation. 

 

Also, the laptop recognizes the dock every time I connect, and makes the chime for a new detected USB device / screen flickers and connects if I connect to an external monitor, just the charging doesn't occur most of the time.

 

I have the latest firmware on my dock, and all of the systems drivers / bios up to date as of making this post.

 

Definitely need some help from Lenovo support.

I tried this again and the system still says i have the latest driver already installed. I get no help from support on either side. they want to put the blame on the other or they don't have a screen promt for this issue. No one i have talked to has tried to help. This is going on way too long. I have ordered another Thunderbolt to see if that will work. (Lenovo should have already sent a replacement but agian they do not want to do anything) If that does not do it then i will order an off brand to see if that works. 

 

You would think buying the top of the line laptop, docking stations, and max warranty that Lenovo would have better support!

all of the updates, firmware, hardware, software, ane whatever else 'ware have been updated and still the Thunderbolt dock is NOT charging. I also ordered a new one from Amazon. I tried it out as well and get the same exact thing. 

 

DOES LENOVO CHECK OUT THEIR PRODUCTS THAT THEY RECOMEND?!?!?!?

 

Sure can't get any support. I am about ready to send my whole $4000 order back to them!

 

Does the Thunderbolt3 135w have enough wattage to power my C940?

I think I recieved a warning about the power cable not having enough power. The Type-C thunderbolt cable should be able to power my device since this is what is recomended by "Lenovo" for my system.

I have a similar problem, though didn't buy the exact thinkpad dock you have. None of my dell docks (wd15, TB16) work with this laptop for charging either.

 

Reading all the hate & discontent about charging on this forum it seems like a fundamental problem with not only these models (c940) but the previous generation as well.

Are you talking about the 14" or 15" model (i presume the 15" since your are talking about the 135w power). I have the 15" model and also thought I could charge it over TB. I have asked this in an other topic as well but Lenovo doesn't answer eplicitly if the 15" model can charge over PD.

that is what sales just told me to buy also. 

 

If that doesn't work then I think the laptops gonna have to be returned.
