Yoga Creator 7-15IMH05 Laptop GTX 1650. Fans Do Not Turn Off In Sleep Mode

2021-02-11, 22:52 PM

Fans should turn off in sleep mode but they don't. This should be resolved in a BIOS update. Please release one.

Hello @NorckClicky!

Nice to have you here at Community Forums!

Try to place the Yoga 7 Creator in Hibernate mode and check if the fans will stop running or if it will provide a difference on how the fan runs when it's in Sleep mode.

Also, check the Yoga 7 Creator's Power and Sleep settings including the Power Options and make sure that the device is set to be placed into Sleep mode when the lid is closed.

You can also check the BIOS setup and see if there's an option in there that will allow you to disable or turn off the fans when in Sleep mode or other settings related to it.

Thanks,

Hibernate Mode works for fans being turned off, but this should also be the case in sleep mode for laptops. I have checked the BIOS and no such option exists. The power and and sleep settings are set to sleep mode if lid is closed when the sleep mode fan problem occurs.

Thanks for the info @NorckClicky!

Can you also provide us your device's MTM (machine type-model) number for us to check its specifications?

Thanks for providing your device's details @NorckClicky!

As it turns out, the Yoga Creator 7 - 15IMH05 supports Modern standby out of the box, different to the classic S3 sleep mode. In modern standby, the CPU stays powered on as intended, so it’s not advised to be transporting the system in this state. We've try to look in the PSREF for the information, but its not stated in the official specs. It’s being stated in many online reviews of the laptop and seems to be a common sleep-state for Intel 10th Gen CPUs.

You can check the supported power states through the “powercfg /a” command in command prompt, but usually if the modern standby is supported, the classic sleep states aren’t. As we've been looking further into the modern standby option, it seems that there are some users who were able to revert it back to S3 sleep mode through editing the registry, but tweaks like this are definitely not supported and can lead to more issues.

I have the same problem. Is there a way to fix this in order to be able transporting the device while in sleep mode?

Hello @ steaf!

Thanks for posting here at the Community Forums!

It would be advisable to have the machine be fully turned OFF if you'll be travelling instead of placing it to Sleep mode so that it will be able to save more power/battery and for the machine not to experience any issue(s) since the fans will still not be set to OFF even when it's in Sleep mode as the integral part(s) of the machine itself still needs it to operate properly.
