Yoga KB and Touch Pad not disabled on Screen Flip

2012-11-01, 2:26 AM

Hey just got my Lenovo Yoga 13.3 inch. Totally love it. But I have had one issue. After I flushed the partitions and reinstalled windows my keyboard and touch pad don't turn off when I flip the screen back. This is actually a pretty serious problem for me as I really like flipping this guy backwards on the couch. I've installed all the drivers of the website and been through the bios. Haven't seen anything specific to my issue.

Please help!

I've noticed it seems to have to go farther back than before to switch after reinstalling. It still switches off when completely closed, but using it as a reverse laptop it seems hit or miss whether it disabled for me as well. about 180 seems like it should be the disable point, but it weel like it doesnt consistantly disable until a bit past 270 at least.

This helped me too

Thanks there is just a sweet spot. I'm starting to dial it in. Wish it was as soon as you go past 180 degrees

I believe the issue has to to do with not being able to correctly reinstall lenovo transition and/or lenovo smart switch. My guess is one or both of  those control thesetting for when thekeyboard disables. Unfortunatly those programs were not included in the drivers, and although I had back ups of the file folders, there were no actual installers. So I can run the lenovo transition  software, but without actually being able to install it the lenovo smart switch software won't  run correctly, which I think is the one that most likely sets the disable point.

I don't see a copy of the install on lenovo's drivers site either, so I'm not exactly sure howto install it, even though I have a copyof all of the installed files. We might need someone from Lenovo to make the installer avalible to see if that fixes it unless someone can figure out a way to get it working without the installer. (I tried resistering the .dll's in the folder manually and none of them would register with regsvr32)

I've played around with the touchpad a LOT because I need to be very efficient with it when I'm at work. The reason it's not disabling is because you've installed a non-lenovo version of the touchpad driver. Probably downloaded it from Synaptics.

Well, the truth is, Lenovo's driver has very limited functionality. I found a workaround for it and made a PDF that will turn on all those functionality and finally putting the Lenovo's drivers back in place which will turn on the auto-disable of the touchpad when the laptop is put in tablet mode:

In my case I am 100% sure that is not the issue djklmnop. The driver I reinsallted is the one that came on the D drive with the system.

Furthermore, the keyboard/touchpad will indeed shut up, it just does so at somewhere around a 300-315 degree angle rather than at about 180. You can use it in tablet mode just find, but sing it standing on the keyboard is difficult because if thekeys get pressed they aren't disabled at the 270ish degree the screen is at for that.

djklmnop, your guide is awesome!

Two thoughts occur to me:
1) Since you are installing the Synaptics version 15.2 driver, configuring settings, then upgrading to the 16.2 driver provided by Lenovo, the Synaptics settings are probably stored in the user registry. Have you poked around in there? Maybe the settings are labeled in an obvious way that it would be easy to change them even without the 15.2 version control panel.

2) Hopefully whenever Synaptics releases a version 16 driver on their web site, we won't need the Lenovo version at all to get the Windows 8 features.

I installed the synaptics driver that was on the d: drive. And then subsequently the driver from the lenovo site. I'll try your driver and see of it helps the issue. Although the sweet spot is well ingrained at this point.

Just as a side note I LOVE this laptop and Windows 8. I've found a few rough spots but over all very good for the massive change in the UI.

Synaptics has updated their driver!

I'm gonna try this out when I get home tonight. It's a higher version number than the Lenovo driver.
