Yoga Slim 7 going to sleep whenever it gets moved or touched appropriately

2021-04-01, 15:24 PM

My Yoga Slim 7 is going to sleep whenever I do the following things:

- plugging something in the USB-A slots on its right side

- touching the right side with a slighty dynamic movement

- moving / lifting up the laptop by its right side

- adjusting the lid / screen angle

And even sometimes that means, that I have to cold reset as Windows seems to do not like the on-off-going to sleep thingie that much.

I thought it was a "intelligent" feature going havoc and have deactivated those in Lenovo Vantage without change. Maybe there is some kind of device / sensor I can deactivate in BIOS or device-manager? I only really want the device go to sleep when I am closing the lid ...

Drivers are up-to-date. Device itself came packed with a lot of drivers it does not need (geforce drivers without a dGPU, Fingerprint sensor) and I have little problems regarding my TB4 connection to the eGPU, but have developed a workaround, which basically contains me charging the laptop to +90% before connecting it to the eGPU, which then runs like it should.

Welcome to the Community Forums @ Astfgl!

Thanks for posting here!

Can you provide us your Yoga Slim 7's MTM (machine type-model) number first for us to check its specifications?

Try to check for any available driver updates still through the Lenovo Vantage app and see if the Windows OS is also updated.

You may also try resetting the Power settings into defaults then test if it will go into Sleep mode again when it gets moved or touched randomly.

We'll be waiting for your response.

Thanks,

Adriel_Lenovo

@Adriel_lenovo MTM is 82A3002RG. Windows and all drivers are uptodate - just rechecked.

Thanks for providing your device's details @ Astfgl!

Does the issue also happens when the Yoga Slim 7 laptop is in idle or when not touched/moved?

You may check this previous post and follow/perform the steps provided there to see if it will get the job done.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,

No, it only happens, whenever I am actively using the laptop.

Unfortunately changing power settings/ registry does not change the weird behaviour.

hi

Could you please check Vantage->Smart Assist

1.Turn off Zero touch login

2.Turn off Zero touch lock
3.Turn off Zero touch video playback

Then check whether the problems still occurred?

Everything is disabled. Maybe it's a hardware defect after all: The event log tells me that the power button gets pressed, even when there is nothing pressing it or against it.

I don't know how the button itself should feel like, but it certainly does not have a responsive feedback at all. It does not give me a nice clicky noise and also has no real physical depth to it. Maybe there is really something wrong with the button itself or it has a loose connection??

hi

I suggest you go to Lenovo service for help. Before that you could try Open Control panel->Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do -> Set “When I press the power button” to “Do nothing” for both “On battery” and “Plugged in”

See if it works.

Dear@ wangyanyan

this was a good suggestion. I don't have the sudden notebook-says-goodbye-moments - at least not the way I have experienced them before: I still think there might be something off with the unit, as the device very rarely turns itself off cold. And then still Windows is not able to boot up directly but is stuck in some kind of bootloop.

Unfortunately right now I need the device every day all the time and can't get it serviced right now.

Another utterly weird thing is that if connected with a USB-C-hub, I've also used with a lot of other notebooks, the Yoga Slim thinks it get's charged. The USB-C-Hub offers 3 USB 3.0 and a Ethernet-ports ...
