Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

Hi baliosian

Can you please share your complete Thinkpad Yoga model number? Can you also share the driver version you are using for the touchpad ? It is also a Synaptics mouse ? Which Windows version are you using?

I always try to update the drivers first I use this tools on this order:

- Lenovo System Update

- Lenovo Settings.

- Lenovo Support WebSite for the specific model number.

After that I try the manufacturer drivers (under my own risk), and sometimes I also get good results.

Regards

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

hi

the machine is a ThinkPad Yoga 12 model 20DLCTO1WW, bought in June this year.
it has:

- windows 8.1 (up to date)
- synaptics driver version:  18.1.27.30 (updated a couple of days ago)
-  bios updated two days ago too.

the weird thing is that this started happening a couple of weeks ago or so. the only thing that changed (but seems unlikely to have something to do with) is that I started using a OneLink dock more or less at the same time.

more details: the problem might be two problems. sometimes the trackpad stop working but not the keyboard (this seems to be related with the palm recognition feature malfunctioning) and sometimes trackpad AND keyboard stop working. touchscreen always work. everything comes back to work after sleeping and awakening the machine. all this happens every hour or so latelly.

cheers

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

Hi

Just one correction to my latest post.

- It is "Lenovo Companion", not "Lenovo Settings" the one that helps to find driver updates...but I'm not sure if it works on Windows 8.

Try to update everything you can with "Windows Update", "System Update" and "Lenovo Companion"

I'm sorry that I do not have a solid idea how to help you, only "trial and error".

Can you define a time frame with this happens ?.. not exactly but something like "it is for sure that after using it for two days it happens to me once"

If it happens ever X days... can you try for X day not to use the OneLink and see if the problem appears?

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

hi

first, thanks for all the sugestions.

I am convincing myself now that is an issue with the hinges sensors. the same problem happens under Linux Arch, and I have noticed it happes every time I'm with the machine on my lap in laptop mode and change a little the screen-base angle.

the weird thing is that the trackpad recovers just sleeping and awakeing the machine, on windows and linux.

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

Hi Baliosian.

I think that, if you experienced the same issue also on "Linux Arch", this is more related to a hardware problem.

Maybe you should try opening a ticket to Lenovo to see if this can be fixed.

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

Maybe your issue is related to: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/TP-Yoga-12-Synaptics-Pointing-Device-no...

update:

Sorry, just noticed that yours is the 1st Gen Yoga. But maybe the problems are ralated anyway. You could try to carefully tap on the underside of the device or move/tilt it a bit and see if it influences your problem in some way. Be really careful in case you have an HDD installed.

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

thanks! as I see from lenovo people's comments at that thread, there is no news about  the cause yet.

Re: Yoga - Trackpad and touchpad stops working

Hi baliosian.

If you are gettting the same issues on Linux, it may be more of  a hardware problem or some BIOS miss-configuration.

The formal way to get an answer from Lenovo is to contact your local Lenovo Service Site and ask them for a ticket to review you computer. Check also if your computer is under warranty.
