Oh I did not notice that. Wow, agreed. That is a deal breaker for me :(

**bleep**, I just saw that.... So now you must press FN and the arrow keys to increase/decrease volume/brightness (among other things). This is a deal breaker for me.

@Lenovo, you have not even released the product and this looks like a failure. You guys should host feedback panels. Honestly, If I went to a store today and had to choose between the 2, I would definitely buy the Y2P over the Y3P. I would do so becuase the Y3P has ugly hinges and no hotkey keys. Not only that, but looking at the build, it looks mission impossible to crack open the hood.

Plus, I am not convinced that the lack of a fan is a good idea.

I think the story on the hinge goes like this.

Enginering: You know guys, we no longer need vents in the back. The new CPU is fanless. Any idea how to use that space?
Marketing: Ok, wow. What should we put back there. Something to make it look more rugged maybe, to show off the Yoga'ness and all.
Engineering: Well we haven't had many hinge failures, but we have a new intern that just mastered this new CAD program and came up with a nifty new interlocking hinge that takes up the entire back of the laptop. We could try that.
Marketing: Yeah, perfect lets go for that. :smileyhappy:

Marketing: We also need a golden and silver version of the 3Pro.

Engineering: Let 's first address the AC and hinge problem

Marketing: We would also like to have the Swarovsky screen version

Engineering:  You make sure procurement buys some decent AC WLAN cards, then you'll get some Swarovsky style  hinge. Get on it,  you know we have little time as the bean counters of finance & compliance need the product details for the white list wizards ...

I actually think this is a good thing, I sometimes hit the volume buttons inadvertantly and the stupid popup stays on the screen for way too long. It's the performance that will be the deal breaker for me, especially at this price point.

The issue to me is they removed the entire row of keys at the top. Apparently it was to increase the border space to make the tablet easier to hold in portrait mode. In fact the overall width and height are a little bit bigger. I don't think the tradeoff is worth it to lose an entire row of keys. My 2 cents.

Yoga 3 Pro specifications:

Yoga 3 Pro specifications.jpg

The battery is smaller at 44.8 Wh (Y2P has 54 Wh). Broadwell CPU is more efficient, but looks like it'll have the same (not great) battery life as Y2P (9 hours idle, 6 hours video playback).

Screen is same crappy pentile, but even less bright than Y2P, at only 300 nits (Y2P is 350 nits).

It's 8mm deeper, but 2.7 mm thinner, and 200 grams lighter than Y2P.

The worst usability drawback is that there's no F keys row at all, so forget about one touch volume, brightness and other shortcuts (and what about Escape and Delete keys??)

And on top of that it has the ugliest hinge ever. It might be great practically, but It literally screams "SHINY"!!! I'd feel embarrased to go to a public place with it, or I'd paint it to black...

The rest of the laptop looks fantastic, have to admit that.

Overall, if I had Y2P and Y3P in a shop for the same price I'd choose Y2P without any hesitation.

But Lenovo even priced Y3P much higher than Y2P.

They messed it up this time...

Loving this Yoga:

  • fast
  • silent (is there a fan on the picture above?)
  • light weight
  • m.2 80mm SSD (256GB +) space
  • smart  solution for power supply
  • class standard wlan

If only it would have the Yoga 2 13 1080p screen ...
