c940 14 inch - Distorted Audio with Dolby Atmos

2019-12-03, 22:38 PM

14 inch c940 model.

Issue: Audio from computer speakers is distorted when Dolby Atmos is turned on (sounds like the chasis is vibrating). Most pronounced at 60%+ volume, and when triggering the system sound notifications (ex: changing system volume tone).

Steps taken with atmos turned on:

- Reinstalled Realtek audio drivers

- Turned on Spacial sound after right clicking sound icon

- Turned down system sound volume in the sound mixer

- Attempted to find loudness equalization settings, but they are missing in the sound control panel

- Reverted back to Lenovo Vantage Enterprise (as other specific hardware features were missing in the newer version of vantage... ex hotkey toggle)

Since the speakers work fine with dolby atmos turned off, I'm hoping I've ruled out a hardware issue. At the same time, Atmos is a big selling point, and I woudn't want to keep the laptop if it doesn't work as intended.

Any ideas for next steps?

You can try also tightening screws on the cover. My 730 was flexing before I did it - screws were 3/4 way in, some 50%. Maybe this will be the solution.

c940 14 inch - Distorted Audio with Dolby Atmos

Hi there! I have the same problem , just that to me the left lower speaker is buzzing. I've tried disabling the Atmos but if i go more then 50% the buzzing is still there but not so loud. I really think after listening closely to the speaker that in fact is a hardware issue. Definitely the speaker has to be replaced. I checked on the internet for spare parts , but still hard to find most probably because the laptop is still new on the market and also we still have warranty so it would not be advised to replace it by myself.
