c940-14" Function keys changing from f1 to hotkeys...

2019-12-27, 2:41 AM

I don't *think* i've done anything that could switch the behavior of these, but let me know if there is supposed to be a factory key combination that can do it..

All of a sudden, my top-row keys are not behaving like hotkeys(volume, microphone, etc) but instead like the regular F1-F12.

I have to press the Fn key now.

I've looked in lenovo vantage and I don't see an option. From other searching it seems like this is a bios-only option?

That's even nuttier because I haven't even been in this PCs bios yet.

Is there a key combination that should switch them? I tried 'Fn + esc' and Fn + <lots of other keys> but it does nothing.

Thanks

Press Fn-Esc to toggle the behavior.

By default, it should be Fn + Esc, but since it somehow does not work...

yeah, Fn+esc doesn't work.

I remap keys:

caps-lock -> left-windows
esc->caps-lock
left-windows -> escape

because it's more ergonomic..

But switching the top row doesn't work regardless of pressing the either Fn with either Esc or lwindows..

I uninstalled all of the Lenovo software (vantage, lenovo utility etc) and booted into BIOS.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500216

There you can set the function keys to map as media keys by default and set the cooling to be intelligent.

The laptop works much more smoothly without the Lenovo apps installed, too.

On my machine  (Yoga C940-15IRH),  Open Lenovo Vantage and here are the steps:

1: click on "My device Settings"( This was on top of screen under "Device" tab)

2: turn ON  "Lenovo Vantage toolbar"

3: Click on "Lenovo Vantage toolbar" ( this was a giant battery on the lower right of taskbar)

4: under "Quick settings",  Click "Keyboard Top row function"
