Re:9i weak wi-fi signal

@Zapama

could you please give me the name of the WiFi router? I installed new WiFi and Bluetooth drivers, as well. But without any success. If this is really a WiFi 6 issue I would simply buy an usb-wifi adapter and wait until there is a solution (but only if they give me some discount for the 9i because of this serious issue).

Hello, I replaced my previous router with the Asus AX92U but I recommend to try it before buy (I have a friend with WiFi 6 network)...

Thanks, to be honest I am again very unsure what to do. I like the 9i but the 7i is cheaper and the WiFi is working. ;-) I would buy the 7i pro but thanks corona there is currently no way to order it for me.

Back to the issue... As mentioned I updated the drivers and tried to force 5G but nothing worked. Very next to the router/repeater I have 100% signal. Somebody mentioned that this is maybe an design issue.

Another question is there any 9i with a good wifi signal?

Excellent work, jstuart830!

I can confirm the screws on the back are the problem!

Using the free app 'WiFi Analyzer,' i measure signal strength 25dB lower when the hidden screws are in place.

When i remove them, WiFi strength is normal.

To be specific, remove the screws under the rear rubber strip (foot) on the PC's bottom cover plate.

Hi! I was wondering if everything has been fixed with your wifi adapter? Did they use the same model? I've had my i9 for less than 2 weeks and cannot connect unless sitting next to the router. I'm Central America right now and they are saying they can't do anything but when I come back the USA they can replace with the exact same model adapter. Has your wifi improved since they put in the new adapter?

Do you guys think that it´s ok to just remove those three screws? Or does it affect the stability of the notebook?

@goingplaces My wifi adapter (the whole mainboard) was replaced and I can say that it definitely not fixed the problem. In the beginning I thought it would have been a bit better but that´s nonsense. When I use Bluetooth and Wifi at the same time, the wifi completely crashes. Bluetooth works fine. It´s definitely due to bad engineering. Just a shame that no one noticed before publishing this model!

Thanks for the tip. I can confirm that after removing these two screws Wifi signal increased significantly.

Re:9i weak wi-fi signal

As someone with ZERO tech background - I used an eye glass screwdriver and loosened the two outside screws underneath the rear bumper.  It worked - so for those who are not tech inclined - it's worth you giving this a shot.  Just be careful removing that bumper - I accidentally tried to pry it from under the plastic and I started to damage the shell of the laptop.  Use a flat plastic painters tool to get in under the rubber but over the cover of the lap top - its gonna sort of peel off and leave glue behind, but after I loosened the screws, it sort of just stuck back in.

Also note I couldn't get the screws all the way out, but it didn't matter.  Loosening them as much as I could sent my bars immediately went from 0 to 4.

Thank you to the person who took the time to figure this out and post it here.  Lenovo should really be ashamed.  Never again.
