lenovo yoga 3 14 wont boot

Recently unplugged power charger from yoga 3 14 and screen went blank.

Tried to re power, tried reset button, tried power button 10sec reset.

Power button shows light, keyboard backlight will light up and then go off power button light stays on but no display.

Tried removing battery and reseating ram.

Tried HDMI output to different monitor, nothing displayed.

Removed and tested ssd hard drive and drive is ok.

I am thinking there is a problem with the motherboard. appreciate any advice.

Re: lenovo yoga 3 14 wont boot

Hello Brokenlen

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

You could be right, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: lenovo yoga 3 14 wont boot

Thanks Krakken,

I tried as suggested, removed battery from board and held in power button for 30 sec.

Still the same, power will light up, keyboard back light will flash on and off but no display at all.

The cost of a new system board seems very high. are there any places i can have it repaired or exchanged.

Something else interesting is tha the power light stays on until i manual hold the button in to turn it off.

It also still generates heat and i notice that the cooling fans are operational still but no display.

Re: lenovo yoga 3 14 wont boot

By the sounds of things, this will be a connection issue with the display cable.

I would recommend that you get in touch with your local Lenovo support, and request a repair if possible.

Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

I have never in 35 year of computing hears such a rediculous thing to try. Static will destroy your machine, period. UNDER NO CIRRCUMSTANCES should you attempt the above.

Not sure what you find "rediculous".  Perhaps you'd care to explain.

Static is the commonly used - but rather inaccurate - term describing residual charge in on-board capacitors that may be preventing BIOS from resetting properly.  Pulling power sources and pressing the power button has rescued many confused laptops.
