Re: upgrading processor in yoga 500

Also, the only way he could upgrade the CPU is to buy a complete new system board assembly, and swap that. Kindly find the below part number which supports i7 processor.

MB W 80R4 NOK I76500U UMA                   5B20K61855

MB W 80R4 NOK I76500U N16SGT 2G       5B20K61848

MB W 80R4 NOK I76500U N16VGM 2G      5B20K61850

Update us how it goes.

Re: upgrading processor in yoga 500

Hi, i have a YOGA 500 with an intel i3 1.9 GHz.

According to the datasheet you provided it can run processors Up to 5th Generation Intel® CoreTM i7.

But you also mentioned that a new system/ mainboard is required, which doesnt quite fit.

Hence:

1) can it can hold i5 and/ or i7 - without mainboard upgrade?

2) if i am stuck with i3 processor, which socket do i use as i can purchase a faster i3, e.g.

Intel Core i3-6100 2x3.7GHz 3MB-L3 IntelHD 530 Sockel 1151 CPU (Skylake) Boxed

Intel Core i3-4170 2x3.7GHz 3MB-L3 IntelHD Sockel 1150 (Haswell) BOX

many thanks in advance -a

Re: upgrading processor in yoga 500

There might be an exception or two, but laptops don't use socketed CPU's, so you would need to really bone up on your desoldering skills. Save your $$$ and buy the laptop you want in the future. If you want something faster, consider selling the current one to help pay for the next. With very few exceptions, laptops are not upgradable.
