i knew that was going to happen.. you posted that long, important message in too many threads.. forum mods never like copy+paste postings, regardless of it's importance :smileyfrustrated:

Just picked up a Yoga 13 i5 4GB RAM 128GB SSD from the Microsoft Store (mfg. date is 13/01/19.. out-of-the box I did notice bars dropping on the WiFi signal, then I ran complete Windows update.. haven't seen any bars drop since.. I'm sitting right beneath my Netgear WNR1000 Router and I'm running speedtests as if I'm connected via hardwire!?:

...now I'm unplugging the power and walking about 20ft away:

..not bad?! I'll be back with more later in the day!

This is a very positive development, guys.

I was concerned that Lenovo was not responding because they knew there was no solution to the wifi issues. But the fact that a forum mod merged the two parallel threads over 3 months after their creation assures me that there is a definite possibility that Lenovo is just oblivious to the issue and will now work quickly on a fix.

Here's hoping.

Those are some good looking speeds. Intersting .... If you get chance can you try it in tablet or kiosk mode on a table and see if it still stays as strong.

When you went away from the router was it behind a wall? That for me was always the biggest cause of a connection drop when I moved behind a wall (particularly in tablet mode).

It is good to see some positives on the yoga forum.

Also can you tell us what wireless card is in the laptop, and what model number of the processor?

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

good day, my YOGA classmates! so, i'm somewhat pleased that I was able to squeeze 6+hrs of battery life out of my not even 12hrs old brand new Yoga 13...!! I still wish it came with the USB Ethernet dongle (I really thought it did?!)... The HD+ screen on this is amazing! I'm running it side-by-side the Lenovo U310 Touch and, well, honestly I'm not surprised.. because previously I was running it side-by-side the ThinkPad Twist, which has a similarly stunning display as the Yoga.. So right now I'm trying to determine if having the better display + full SSD is worth $1,000+ (the U310 Touch is currently going for $499 @the Microsoft Store, this YOGA is $999 + RAM + SSD upgrades needed...)...

anyhow, back to the WiFi tests...

this morning, laptop mode, A/C unplugged, sitting underneath the router...

..tablet mode, sitting underneath the router...

..same 20ft spot as yesterday, this time in tablet mode...

..in tablet mode, 40ft away, through walls...

...Power Options: USB selective suspend setting>On battery: Enabled; Wireless Adapter Settings>Power Saving Mode>On battery: Medium Power Saving

...haven't seen any bar drops in the WiFi signal since I ran Windows Update

So how fast are we looking to get this WiFi connection to go? What have been people's experiences in their homes over a solid connection? I'm getting a consistent 64Mbps transfer rate in my house. Is that up to par with a Wireless-N rated device? I have a 300Mbps Netgear router (dual-band), but 64 isn't all that close to even 150Mbps, or one band.

That really depends on what you are getting 64Mbps doing. If it is internet access then that is likely limited by your internet providers speed and subscription plan. If that is transferring files over the network between two computers then it could be the yoga limiting the speed due to its bad WiFi.

Obviously this is probably the max speed of your ISP on your plan. But how does this compare to other computers on your network? (U310 might not be a great example as they also have an interesting WiFi experience).

Also as these tests are really dependent on what your max internet speed is. 50mbps might be great for your internet connection but if that is as fast as the yoga wireless can go then that's not so great for someone on a faster connection or someone that moves files around a network. I could start a file transfer to our home server with the yoga and sometimes get around 40mbps (if I was in direct line of site of the router), but compared with a MacBook that could do 180mbps when sat right next to the yoga.

I must say though that the tests do seem more consistent than I've seen before in a Yoga.
