Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

I figured that if I purchase an external USB wireless adapter, then I won't have to deal with wifi issues no more.

WRONG!  I am still experiencing very, very slow wifi speeds.

I thought the internal Realtek wifi card was the culprit?!?!?!  This just proves that there is something inherently wrong with the Yoga.  :smileymad:   This is just absurd that even using a 3rd party wireless adapter, this POS still cannot maintain usable wifi speeds.

So I just disproved everyones' theory that the internal wifi card is the culprit.  It is possible that this is just  small part of a much bigger flaw,  hence Lenovo isn't doing anything to remedy this.

This is a just like the antenna fiasco that the Iphone 4 had which was a flaw with the core design of the product. There is no fixing such an issue unless the design gets an total overhaul from the ground up.

LOL!!!Janel, very well done on that edit. Shows you're human too, I like it. Cheers.

May I offer something? Can we compromise? All I see here, are genuine Lenovo customers  seeking  an honest solution to the to-be-honest, very un-useful wifi component on their brand new (or nearly new) pretty  darned expensive laptop. From your perspective, and toyour point, yes  ...  who knows whatthe files are and if I werea modI'd probably have a hardand fast rule against posting files here or links to  potential malware etc.

So the request here now: Is there a way one of us could  post a note here, with appropriate disclaimer that you should not use unverified and unsigned files, and any files you instal from anywhere on the Internet other than Lenovo's own website, is potentially hazardous and  unsupported. And in that post, can the poster place their email address as we can do in any other forum I have ever seen? You the mods do not have to take responsibility for any mails between those users ... whether they say "Good day Mate, let's go have a beer" or, "Here's your virus, have a niceday" ....

Pleaseconsider this option, because I can assure you, the drivers offered  me by Thad has made a totally unusable wifi component, functional ON MY SYSTEM.

Best wishes,

Godzilla

I can say Lenovo tech support in North Carolina does know about the issue as I sent my laptop into them a couple weeks ago after doing support by email and 2 remote logins. They even gave my Yoga to the engineering team there. I am getting a replacement Yoga from them as they said they may need to send the laptop to China for further evaluation. So, I am hoping that the new Yoga will come with the newer WiFi driver.

I am also hoping that maybe now that they have my laptop that it will help all of us on here with WiFi issues.

Am I the only person to test out a USB wireless adapter only to find out that it still gave me wifi problems?

It would sometimes get normal download speeds in the 9 - 13mbps range.  And then BAM!  It would slow down to a crawl to about 0.9 - 1.5 mbps.

Using an external USB wireless adapter made NO DIFFERENCE at all.  This seems more and more like a software / OS issue.  :smileysad:

I plugged in an Airlink 101 Realtek RT8178 or somesuch 54mbps 54g stick and it was horrible. Sadly now my ping times are consistently up on the built-in NIC. So .... word to the wise don't do it. Btw you are correct performance was insanely low using that NIC, 6mbps down (where normal is 24 or so) .6 up, huge ping latency. I don't really care that add-on NICS perforn poorly, the stock one should work great. But given that all wifi on the device is USB, stock NIC included, this may give us a clue to one of the issues. Maybe the biggest issue is with USB?

I did notice stalling when testing using an old wireless G USB adapter on a previous yoga. I'm curious to see what exactly the realtek driver fixes. if the issues are a combination of USB bus and antenna placement, then we shouldn't expect issues to be solved with the wifi driver. but it sounds like people are having limited success.

Did you update your Realtek Wireless Adapter driver to version 1021.5.1217.2012 using thaddyusmaximus' files/method?

See above, yes I did that first. Worked well. Then saw this guy's repeated posts about USB so I plugged one in. Result is it changed things on all adapters for me. Still good but latency is definitely worse now on the built-in NIC.
