My husband spent well over an hour on the phone today with Lenovo support.  It took that long to finally get through to a supervisor.  He demanded that they do something to take care of the problem that we are having.  They will not acknowledge that there is any problem.  When he mentioned this forum and all of the negative posts on here they said they were not aware that anyone else is having a problem.  Kept trying to blame it on our router.  When he finally got through to a supervisor he was emphatically told that this is not a hardware issue but apparently a software issue.  He suggested we contact Lenovo for premium support ($$$$$) to try to resolve the problem.   We paid $1000 for this computer and are not going to spend more $ to try to have it run properly.  I am very disgusted and discouraged at this point.  I hope one of you have better luck than we did.

I can say that I did go out and buy a new router (a Netgear R6300) and the Yoga is running much better on it!

I just think they wireless card in the Yoga has a lot of compatibility issues with other routers that most wireless devices do not have, but it is possible to get a router to work with the Yoga and have no issues.

The serial number of the computer I ordered (based on shipping email) is EBxxxxxxxx.

Is there any way from that number that I can find the manufacture date, and the installed network drivers?

(Thanks, Robsadams, for the response to my previous post...)

The manufactured date is printed on a label found at the bottom of your machine and can also be found on the side of the cardboard packaging it arrived in.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

I wrote a few days ago that I was having wifi problems similar to those described here and that neither the power setting changes suggested nor the new driver had improved the situation.  I had made a cursory check of my (Verizon's) Actiontec router and thought it was fine based on Verizon's on-line automated status indicator.  However, I then connected a second computer to the router using Ethernet and found the same connectivity problems, especially with large file attachments and uploads.  A speedcheck using Verizon's site confirmed normal download speeds but extremely low upload speeds.  Since the network in this area checked-out OK, Verizon (ISP) concluded the router needs to be replaced.  It should arrive in a couple of days.

I apologize for not running these additional checks initially and taking up space unnecessarily at this already long forum.

For anyone who has not yet already done so, try the newer 1/18/2013 Realtek drivers (e.g. originally from diecast17) and see if it improves your Yoga's wireless performance.  They've helped for many of us.  You can find a download link in the notebookreview forum, post #1089 here:

That said, I agree with others that the wireless card in the Yoga seems to have compatibility issues with some routers so your performance may vary between router models and also may be sensitive to specific router settings.  I had problems with my Netgear N600 (WNDR3700v1) if I changed it from "up to 130 Mbps" to  "up to 300 Mpbs" (i.e. trying other than just 20 MHz bandwidth, i.e. 20/40 or 40 or dual band channel bonding).

Same story here:

- A Lenovo hardware representative spent a long time remotely connected to my Yoga 13. He observed and confirmed the issue [ i.e. wifi is only properly working when close to the access point and without any obstacle between the laptop and the access point, which means my laptop is useless in most of the rooms of my house (and by the way, none of the other laptops (including a Windows 7 Lenovo thinkpad) and tablets in the house has any wifi issue) ], but in the end, he said it's a software configuration issue and told me to call software support.

- Software support told me that software configuration issues aren't covered by my guarantee, so I would have to pay for their support, but with no guarantee that they would fix the issue. I asked them what they would do and they told me they would reinstall Windows. I strongly doubt this would fix the issue since my laptop is brand new and I haven't change any Window settings.

- This is very disappointing.

See the earlier posts a couple pages back. The beta driver seems to have fixed the same issue for lots of people. It did for me.

I installed 1021.6.118.2013, which I believe is the beta driver you're referring to, and that didn't fix my issue.

Whenever it gets connected at all, download speed is 10 to 30 times lower than a cheap Windows 7 Lenovo thinkpad or a 5-year old Dell laptop, to the point where it can't be used for any activity requiring network (unless I'm close to the access point and without any obstacle between the Yoga and the access point as described in my previous post, in which case wifi works well).

I still have the issue despite Windows being up to date and the power saving mode for my wireless adapter being set to maximum performance whether it's on battery or plugged in.

I also verified that I still have the issue when the laptop is plugged in.
